Bridesmaid Dress

Last night a girlfriend asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. The wedding is next June and she already has the BM dress picked out.
Should I go and order my dress ASAP before I get too much rounder or should I wait till after baby comes?

I started this PG 2 sizes smaller than I normally am (thank you wedding stress for helping me shed all those extra pounds), so I am also wondering if I should order it one size bigger. But alterations get expensive fast.

Ideas?

I think I'd wait until after the baby was born. You never know how your body is going to change and, like you said, alterations are expensive!

Kate, I would probably agree with Alyssa--but maybe if I were you, I would go try it on now, to see what size fits you right now, and to ask them how soon before the wedding you would need to order it.

I would guess you would need to order it at least 2 months before the wedding (which is April), and I bet you would lose a lot of weight between April and June, unless you are one of those people that loses it all immediately.

So I just feel like more info is better--go try on the dress, see what size works for you now, and that is information you can take into account in April when you are trying on again and trying to order it.

Good luck! And how fun to be in a wedding. ;-)

I think you should consider how easy (or hard) it was to lose the PG weight the first time around and where your were at 4 months PP, and then decide when to get measured for the dress. If it were me, I'd be in trouble if I had to wear a dress that I had been measured for in my first trimester, and I'm 14 months PP-but that's because BFing makes me keep the weight on. If the weight came off relatively easy the first time, then no problem-get measured now, but if not, I'd wait until PP to be measured.

I agree with all of what people are saying. But what I would mention is talk to the dress shop, is it a dress that might not be in stock or in style next year, if that's the case, then I would say you would need to get measured now and go up a couple of sizes. If it's a dress that will be around then I say wait.

You've gotten great advice.

Thanks ladies.

I honestly don't remember how the weight came of with DS, it's been so long. I can say though that my boobs never shrank after having him, and I plan on BFing so additional room up top should probably be taken into account.

The dress is an a-line, with side rouching (sp?) to cover the tummy area, so I guess that should help.

From what I've read I think I would be best to go and try it on and find out what the story is (how long to get in, when to order by, will be out of stock soon, etc).

I was back in all my pre-pregnancy clothes by 8 weeks but would probably order one size bigger then my pre-pregnancy normal to play it safe:)

Hey Kate! This isn't a normal board for me, as I'm not TTC, but I lurk here on occasion and I saw this post. When did your girls have to have their dresses ordered for your wedding? Our local shop where my BM's got their dresses had to order them by Jan 15 for the wedding on May 22. They do take some time to come in, and then I think we had them sometime in April.
