I'm starting to fill out the paperwork for my mat. leave and got to thinking about due dates.

My EDD is based on my O date.

Ohh, good question! I'm not 100% sure of my O date, but my early u/s pushed my due date forward 5 days. So according to FF I was due May 25, according to early u/s May 20th, and according to James May 29th! I went to Labor on the 28th and had him on the 29th. I feel like my FF due date was probably more accurate, because I had an incredible light BFP at 8dpo, which seems more likely that the same thing at 13DPO, but I guess that is also possible. My early u/s dated my to 6weeks 1 day and we saw the HB so it seems kind of unlikely I was actually 5 weeks 3 days, but who knows... I was traveling so my temps were a little wonky around O time... Anyway it will be interesting to see what people say!

Let me tell you...babies come when they want and 40 weeks is just an average ;).

I did not go into labor on my own. My EDD was first estimated to be October 2nd and then adjusted to September 30th. I was induced on October 9th and he probably would have hung in there for a few more days if he hadn't been evicted.

First babies are more likely to be "late", and when I was cl of Pregnant after TTC, I saw many women who knew exactly when they conceived because of charting, IUI, or IVF go well over their EDDs. Though I have anecdotal evidence only, I don't think it really matters whether you know when you O'd or not, unless you're one of those nutty people who doesn't realize she's pregnant until 4 or 5 months in, haha.

With my first I had an EDD based on LMP. Now I know that with my long cycles that makes the EDD 1 week earlier than it should be if it were based on my O date. She was born at 42wks, 3 days, when adjusted for that week it's still more than a week past my EDD.

My EDD last time was based on my LMP, I'm fairly sure that I O'ed right on day 14, so it was pretty accurate. Alex came on his own at 39w3d. This time, O date was CD 14 or 15, so I'm thinking baby will be coming at about the same timeline. But, who knows?

Even if you know exactly when you conceived, your "due date" is just an abstraction. The standard is to consider gestation to be 38 weeks (40 weeks after LMP), but really in general, babies will come anywhere from two weeks early to three weeks late (if doctors ever let that happen these days). With a first baby, you are most likely to have it about a week "late". But there's really know way to know.

I didn't go to labor on my own but we did make it to 41 weeks before Barrett got his eviction notice ;) My lmp due date was within a day or two of my fertility friend due date so Barrett taking his time had nothing to do with inaccurate due dates and was really because I was a typical first time mom (more than half deliver after their due dates)

I'm probably not going to give you very helpful information!

My first pg, my water broke at 37 weeks so that was nowhere close to my due date.

My EDD was DS was 2/14, he was born 1/31. My cervix was closed and I was 1 cm dilated on 1/30... my water broke at 6am on 1/31. I was so not planning on him coming 2 weeks early and had to take care of all my insurance and maternity leave paperwork in the hospital bed.

My FF due date was 15 Feb, and from my chart I know that conception/O date were accurate. The due date based on u/s measurements, and which was used by Drs/midwives/hospital, was 10 Feb, 5 days earlier.
In the end he arrived on 22 Feb, 12 days over his official due date, but based on my "real" due date he came within one week after the DD (if you do go over, a very high percentage of babies come within the first week over).

I don't think any of this will be a real help though - it's interesting to read everyone's comments, but as Lorien said it's just an estimate and you'll never know ;-)

According to my O date, FF put my EDD at June 8th. I had an u/s at 7 weeks and that put my EDD at June 14th (she was measuring small). Elena had other ideas entirely and came on June 2nd. She was one of those "first" babies that decided to come early.
