Hi everyone!

I bought a Doppler to use at home and haven't had any success finding the baby's heartbeat yet. I tested it on my heart, and can hear it just fine.

It does worry me a bit that I can't pick anything up, especially since ladies on the EC seem to be able to hear it way earlier than how far along I am now. On the other hand, I know it can be because of many different factors, and the manual itself says that you might not hear it until 13-14 weeks.

Any tips or suggestions?

Hi Alyssa,

I can't offer any great tips, since I've never tried to operate a doppler myself.

But I just wanted to offer the reminder that your

Your baby is probably still behind your pubic bone.

Yeah I would start RIGHT next to your pubic bone, push it DEEP into your body, and point it DOWN. And angle it all different ways and change where you have it placed like five million times.

Good luck, and don't worry, if your DH is just starting to notice you having a belly, I'm sure your bean is growing just fine.

I think the others have given you some good advice, I've also heard that having a full bladder can help to push everything up a little higher and maybe bring it out from behind your pubic bone. But it is still early, I know the Dr. couldn't find the HB at 10 weeks, but she did find it when I went back in a week later so hang in there!

Thanks for the advice so far, ladies! I know it's really early to find it - even my doctor won't even try until in to the 2T. Luckily, we saw the HB when I had the u/s at 8 weeks, so I'm not really worried that much. I just thought I'd have a good chance, considering how many ladies on the EC have been able to find it and they're not as far along as me.

I know that even at the u/s, she had to push down fairly hard in order to see anything. So, I guess the at-home doppler would be even more difficult. Having a full bladder would probably help too!

Thanks for easing my mind everyone!
