Ferdinand is here!

As you all know I was very uncomfortable and very ready to be done in the last weeks of pregnancy but I was beginning to give up hope that Ferdi would ever come. Then on Thursday I felt sick to my stomach and thought maybe it was "the day" but then it wasn't and I went to bed nice and disappointed LOL. On Friday morning I woke up at 6 with contractions but didn't think too much of it, as they didn't hurt much. We decided to send Teddy to my SIL though as I didn't want him to get scared.
The whole morning DH was working at home and I was doing my hypnobabies and having contractions and just feeling very much like it couldn't be the real thing as it was all so relaxed. The contractions often only lasted 40 secs to a min and came anywhere from 3-7 min apart, everything I read on the internet made me think it wasn't yet active labor especially when it all stopped at 11 am. I decided to go for a walk with DH which was lovely, we talked and I had a few easy contractions on the way. We also rang my Dr who said I should head to the hospital to have them check it out.

We headed to the hospital and we even left my bag in the car as I fully expected to be sent back home at 1cm or something similar. When we got there I first had to do 30 min CTG which I was not pleased about as the portable one was broken and when I was standing it kept taking my heart rate so I had to lay down which is my absolute least favorite position for a contraction. Also at this point I started having strong contractions again about every 2 min but I didn't think much of it. After the CTG the midwife did an internal check and I asked for pain meds LOL, I had had something last time which made me feel just a bit buzzed which I wanted again, and that was when the bombshell came, you are at 8 cm I can't give you anything but don't worry the baby will be here soon!
My expression was priceless, I was shocked and felt like I was in a movie. I was also pissed! :smileyhappy: I couldn't imagine having a big baby with no option of help, I really thought it was not possible.

At this point it was about 2 in the afternoon, and I started having the need to push at about 3 and I really hated it. I didn't want to push and I was very vocal in letting her know, I also often asked for a PDA or a c-section, thankfully she ignored me:smileywink: Even though I wasn't nice at the time she did an awesome job, at one point she got a Dr as Ferdi was turned in a maybe bad way the Dr was also awesome and said no way was I having a c section as I was going to push the baby out right now- my answer to this was of course,"no!" However I did end up pushing him out and it was SO cool to feel his head between pushes, something I didn't have with Teddy. Unfortunately the little stinker decided to have both hands by his head so I did tear but in the moment I didn't notice.

Ferdinand was born at 3:45pm and weighed 8.9 pounds (more then a pound less then his brother!) and was 55cm. And so far is sleeping more then Teddy did but we'll see if it lasts LOL. He seems super small to me in comparison to Teddy and having him early so that he was smaller definitely made a difference as I honestly don't think I could have delivered another Teddy. Overall everything is going well and we are excited to go home on Monday. (I will post a pic then).

Congratulations Ash and welcome Ferdi!!

I've been thinking about you and wondering if he was here yet. That is so awesome that labor went so quickly and you were able to do it med-free.

Hope BFing is going well and Teddy is adjusting well to being a big brother. :-)

Congrats again Ash, can't wait to see more pictures! And I was totally expecting another candidate for the WTTG top 5 biggest babies, so his size did surprise me :smileywink: Though he is super long! Hope he continues to sleep lots - Bo was/is totally different from Teddy and at almost 15 months still doesn't STTN (Teddy did at 2m), so hopefully it's the same for you and Ferdinand is a great sleeper!

Well if he had gone to term or over he definitely would have been as big but I really didn't want that so I was doing everything natural in my power to get him to come earlier, thankfully something (or nothing lol) I did worked! I think Theo was only 1cm longer so we'll see how they compare in a month:smileyhappy: Bo still isn't STTN? You poor thing, I hope he starts soon! We'll call him both Ferdinand and Ferdi I'm sure as we already call Teddy; Theodor, Teddy, and Theo.

Congrats on a great birth--it's cool you got to experience it all natural this time even if you didn't think in the middle that you wanted to!  Hehe.  And YAY for him being smaller than Teddy AND sleeping more so far!

I haven't been on here at all and yesterday I started thinking about you and that you could have had him by now!!  Hehe so glad to see this when I came on here!
