First Doctor's Appointment

Okay, so I had my first doctor's appointment today. Sorry if long and TMI, but I copied it from another board.

First, my stomach was feeling terrible before the appointment, so I had to use the bathroom a couple times before even getting there. So, I get there and they want me to pee in a cup, and I barely get anything out --- and I seriously started freaking out!! LOLOL I assume it was the emotions with being back in the office for being PG again, but I felt like such an idiot.

So, the doctor comes in and asks how I'm doing. I tell her that I'm nauseous all the time, tired, etc.. She's like "okay, well when's you're due date?....Oh, July 24th?" And I look at her like WTF?? I then told her I had a miscarriage in December, and that I was in for a second pregnancy. She looked so embarrassed! Apparently the early pregnancy clinic I went to when I had the m/c didn't fax the doctor's office the documents :P

Anyway, after that, we just talked about how I'm feeling, any questions I have, figured out my *new* due date (Nov. 24th). I told her that I still have the prescription she gave me last time to help with nausea, but I haven't started taking it because I'm worried that a) maybe it caused my m/c last time and b) I like feeling sick because it means the baby is still there. She re-iterated how safe the medication is, that it's MEANT for PG women, and that nothing I did was my fault to cause the m/c. I feel better about things, but I'm still weary of taking the medication.

At the end, she gave me a sheet to get blood work done (I couldn't do it today, because the blood clinic was closed for some reason), and she's going to schedule and u/s appointment for me in the next 1-2 weeks, and then I should get a full physical done at the end of April.

So that's it - I feel okay about things, but I'll feel better once I have the u/s done and (fingers crossed) everything looks good.

Hi Alyssa! I am so sorry to hear the other clinic did not send your doctor the medical records. I know what you mean about the morning sickness it did make me feel good that I had it and I still get bouts of it every now and then but if the medication is safe for pregnant women I would take it. The doctor is right there was nothing that you did to cause the miscarriage. I am sure everything will be okay and you will have a great u/s. The first u/s is always scary after a miscarriage I remember being so scared with mine and it was such a relief I remember crying when I saw her heartbeat and I know yours is going to be great. My doctor told me lots of morning sickness is a great sign which is what I had and still get! Yay for your due date of November 24th! Thinking of you and sending you big hugs!

Alyssa,

I'm sorry for the miscommunication your doctor's office had with the clinic.

Sorry to hear about the miscommunication - I'm sure that was upsetting.

As for morning sickness, did you ever look at this study that links morning sickness with intelligence? This discovery was actually made while they were verifying the safety of Diclectin:

Anyways, all that awful morning sickness is a good sign that you're growing a healthy placenta to support your LO:).

Alyssa- I am so sorry you had that experience..How crappy...But I am glad you have an ultrasound scheduled. I am sure that will make you feel a TON better!

I wanted to share a peeing in a cup story. my 2nd appointment I didn't drink enough fluids before I went and I so thought I wasn't going to have enough, I barely filled the cup but they didn't say anything. But I did panic while I was in there...It's hard to not panic and be nervous, but it does get easier.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone!! I actually wasn’t too upset by the due-date mix-up. I was just more confused than anything – like how could they not have passed on that information? And, if my doctor didn’t know that, why weren’t they calling me to come in for appointments? Weird.

Jennifer – I can see that the u/s is going to be emotional. Hopefully all goes well though, and we get to see our growing bean with a heartbeat!

Andi – yeah, I couldn’t really blame her for the mix-up!

Leona – that is definitely something I’ve learned throughout this whole ordeal. This time, I don’t seem to worry about how things will go as much. I just keep in mind the things that I am doing/can control, and just realize that I can’t control what nature decides. It’s actually been a lot less stressful in that sense. I still have my worrisome moments, but overall I'm feeling good about things.

Amber – they were just doing the urine test to confirm pregnancy, so it wasn’t a big deal (in fact, there was enough to do that). I don’t know why that sent me over the edge, but it did! LOL

Cassie – thank you for sharing that article! I ended up taking the medication last night, and now this morning. We’ll see how much it helps.

Andrea – thanks for keeping me in your thoughts! I guess there are other ways to know Baby G is there besides being sick, but it’s the most obvious symptom I suppose. I have been temping every morning still, which has been helping as well.

Thanks Jess! LOL I still don't know why I got all worked up about it. I think you're right - I was probably just nervous for some reason. I barely got enough to even cover the very bottom of the cup, but it was still enough to dip their PG stick into! :)

Another little funny story that I have.. I have never had a problem with my BP, NEVER..it's always been around 100/60. Always been really good. My very first appt with my MW, it was 140/80 or 90. it was awful. it was totally white coat syndrome. the next month - changing nothing - it was 96/60 and this last time 104/62. so I think I work myself up over nothing, wanting to make sure the baby is fine. So I am sure that's what happened. I can't wait for you to see your little bean. I hope these weeks fly by for you.
