I'm looking for a nice way to tell someone that I don't appreciate them coming up to me and rubbing my belly at their free will.

Christine, I sooooooooooooooooooooo understand you!!! I had that issue with both SIL and with DH's grandma. As soon as they saw me they would give me a quick greeting and then grab my belly and talk to it in baby talk.... The grandma was the WORST, once she even lifted my top to touch it right at the skin.... I almost screamed!!!!!! I must have made a face, cause MIL was right there looking at me, and after that episode the grandma seemed to refrain somewhat. It was very annoying, but I never said anything openly. I knew it was just out of love for the baby, and specially with the old lady, I didn't want to hurt her feelings because obviously this baby is one of the few happy things going on with her life (she's the mother of DH's uncle who died violently a few months ago). But I digress.... As you can see, I couldn't do anything about it. That might have been one of the reasons why Fede came so early!!!! ;)

"well, this whackjob that supposedly birthed the man i married..."
OMG Carly!!!!! ROTFL!!!!! What a MIL you have!!!!

lol mari, having fede early so people keep their hands off your belly! now you just have to worry about keeping everyone's hands off the baby! (or at least making sure they wash their hands first, lol.)

and you have NO idea about my MIL...seriously, after knowing her as long as i have and knowing that she did most of the raising of children, seeing her techniques in action, it's a wonder to me that DH turned out the way he did. but, 8 years together and the other shoe hasn't dropped yet, i guess he just has that strong of a personality. although he does have some of his mother's passive-agressive manipulative tendencies from time to time, but he's pretty good at keeping them in check (at least as far as our relationship is concerned).

christine - how goes it? did you get a chance to confront her? (sorry, every time i think about it now, i imagine something like that scene in sixteen candles with the grandma going after samantha's boobs, lol!)

Carly -I ALWAYS enjoy your stories. I can't even believe that your MIL would do that! I would have been the same and I would be just as upset. That sounds like something my FIL would do. My MIL is too quiet, she might just think those things in her head or something...

Man - At least you only have to see them once in awhile. I can't get my FIL to stop calling the baby Blueberry Epp, I know it's cute, but for some reason it annoys the heck out of me...maybe it's just the hormones.
