In L&D with kidney stones

Well DH and I were enjoying a relaxing weekend at the cabin when I started to feel some lower abdominal and lower right back pain. I didn't think much of it, but I called my midwife just to be sure and she said I should come in just to be safe. So here I am five hours later in he hospital!!! Turns out that I have kidney stones in my right kidney, which explains the pain. They hooked me up to the Fetal monitor to make sure baby was okay and she looked just fine - which is all I cared about! I've been in an increasing amount of pain since I got here, so it's good that I came in. They gave me an u/s and saw "multiple free floating stones" in my kidney... The tech was really nice and gave us a peek at the girl. :). She's still breech and her hands and feet are up by her face, so she's folded on half basically. She's so cute! She still has time to flip, but GEESH I wish she would do it soon!

Anyway, just thought I'd check in and let you all know the drama - I'll be fine, they are giving me some antibiotics and something to dilate my ureter so the stones will pass more easily. Fun fun. Looks like I'll be staying overnight so they can monitor me.

I'll keep you posted!

I'm So sorry! What a bad turn for the weekend to take! I hope that they pass quickly with as little discomfort as possible! At least you did get a peak at your girl. That's something, anyway.

Oh no!! That stinks so bad :( I had a friend who had kidney stones with her first pregnancy too! She's been fine with the others though, so maybe you won't have to do this next time?...

Feel better :)

I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain, but at least you're in the right place to be taken care of. I'm glad that baby girl is doing well through all of this. I hope everything passes quickly (no pun intended) and you can go home soon.

Thanks everyone for the sweet messages. I had a pretty rough night. The pain is getting worse and doesn't seem to let up. I finally gave in and accepted some IV pain meds that are safe for me and baby. But I just can't stand the thought that she's getting the drugs, too. :( I cried a lot about that - I haven't even taken a Tylenol throughout the pgcy. Everyone here is very nice and reassuring, telling me that baby is just fine (they monitor her every few hours), and that they wouldn't offer me anything that wasn't safe. But still... it breaks my heart.

We're waiting for a urology consultation now to see where we go from here... there is talk of having a stent placed to make the kidney stones pass, which is a surgical procedure. Otherwise my only option is pain management with narcotics - and they make me really nauseous so that's been fun...!

Sorry that my update is basically filled with complaints! :/

I'll keep you posted, ladies.

I'm so sorry Ella! But don't beat yourself up about taking some medication- your daughter doesn't want you to be lying in agony due to pain!!!!

I hope that this all gets cleared up quickly!

Awww Ella :( I'm so sorry about everything! I can't imagine the pain you're in on top of the frustration about the meds. When do you think they will put the stint in?
