In L&D with kidney stones

Well DH and I were enjoying a relaxing weekend at the cabin when I started to feel some lower abdominal and lower right back pain. I didn't think much of it, but I called my midwife just to be sure and she said I should come in just to be safe. So here I am five hours later in he hospital!!! Turns out that I have kidney stones in my right kidney, which explains the pain. They hooked me up to the Fetal monitor to make sure baby was okay and she looked just fine - which is all I cared about! I've been in an increasing amount of pain since I got here, so it's good that I came in. They gave me an u/s and saw "multiple free floating stones" in my kidney... The tech was really nice and gave us a peek at the girl. :). She's still breech and her hands and feet are up by her face, so she's folded on half basically. She's so cute! She still has time to flip, but GEESH I wish she would do it soon!

Anyway, just thought I'd check in and let you all know the drama - I'll be fine, they are giving me some antibiotics and something to dilate my ureter so the stones will pass more easily. Fun fun. Looks like I'll be staying overnight so they can monitor me.

I'll keep you posted!

We got home yesterday and since then I have felt *much* better. I haven't had any attacks and the pain has been very manageable with heat (and napping!). I haven't needed to take a Percocet since yesterday morning (really trying to hold off on those if at all possible). So maybe the it was an infection and the antibiotics worked! I sure hope so...

Ayway, thanks for all your P&PTs, they really seemed to help :)

Cassie - you're right, pregnant women are more susceptible to kidney problems in pregnancy. Apparently, pregnancy is "hard on the kidneys" (according to my midwife), and most commonly, women will have issues in their right kidney (like I did) - a lot of it can be due to what position the baby is in and if he/she is putting pressure on the kidney.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this ordeal, Ella:(. It sounds horrible, but I'm glad to hear that you are home now, at least. I hope that the pain subsides very soon. (At least there was the small upside of being able to see your beautiful baby girl!)

PS I wonder if pregnancy can make a woman susceptible to kidney stones? A friend of mine friend unfortunatly suffered from them a few months after she gave birth.

Thanks everyone, you girls are so sweet.

They think I will be able to go home today since they switched me from IV pain meds to oral pain meds last night - so I can manage my pain from home. They STILL aren't positive if this is kidney stones or a bad kidney infection...! WTH? I just wish they could tell me for sure. Just in case it's an infection, I'll be on oral antibiotics for a week. If that doesn't help the pain, then it's probably kidney stones.

I'm just glad I get to go home soon! I'll KUP!

(((Ella))) I hope that by now you are feeling a lot better. The pain meds at this point will most likely just make your little girl sleepy, and she still has time to flip. My little guy didn't flip until 36 weeks.

Oh Ella what a bummer of a weekend! I hope that you are feeling better!

Oh and on your girl flipping, my neice was head down when they decided to induce my now x-SIL. But by the time she got to pushing there and they should have seen the head the Dr got a butt shot!
