maternity jeans rant :\

what do the maternity clothes companies have against tall women? seriously, i've been all over town today looking for some underbelly jeans to start me off, and they're all 31" inseams at best. oh, but they all had petite. so, short women are allowed to get pregnant, but but if tall women want a baby they have to look like they're expecting a flood? (goodwill was a complete bust too...they had half a rack of the frumpiest-looking maternity wear i've ever seen.)

eh, whatever. i know old navy has long inseams for their maternity wear, but i was hoping that i wouldn't have to order jeans online and risk having to return them if they don't fit. (the nearest old navy is in appleton i think, which is a 4.5hr drive.) i did get a be band at target today...it's working quite nicely for now, but seeing as i'm not quite 9 weeks yet, i'm not sure how long it will work. (i'm doing the fold-over trick with it.)

I was going to say, Old Navy maternity jeans run long. I'm only 5'3" and I had to roll mine up and cuff them. Anyway, I ordered them online and the fit was fine other than the length, so maybe that would be ok for you?

Isn't it awful? Old Navy was the ONLY place I had any luck and I also had to order online as the ones around here don't have a maternity section. I don't know if you've ever bought Old Navy jeans before, but I wore the same size in maternity as I did in their regular jeans. :) I loved them and wore them all the time for both of my pregnancies and I'm sure I will this time as well! I just got the ones with the stretchy band around the top, I couldn't do the full panel thing. I know Gap also has longer lengths, but they are way more expensive too. Good luck!

ash - to be honest, i'd never even heard of H&M, but they're even farther away than old navy, lol. it looks like the closest to me is either minneapolis or milwaukee, both about a 7hr drive from here. they don't seem to have an online store either. :\ thanks for the suggestion though!

megan - good to know that they run long! i usually wear a 33 or 34" inseam...i'm 5'8" in flats (5'7" barefoot), but i usually wind up wearing shoes that make me a bit taller, and i like my jeans to go all the way down, lol. i've owned ONE pair of old navy jeans in the past...they were 12L, and i weighed about 10lb less than i do now. they fit like a dream. i've never owned a better-fitting pair of jeans. a slight smidge long though...all i had to do was fold the hem up. then two months after buying them i ruined them by splattering concentrated sulfuric acid all over them, so they're full of holes now. (i was a lab TA for a semester, lol.) i still have them though...couldn't bring myself to chuck'em since they were so new. i should probably go put them on and see how tight they are...i'm sure i'd need a 14 by now, but just because i'm curious, and i'd have a much better idea than just my measurements. i've been burned by measurements before.

cara - i'm glad the sizes run about the same! i'm thinking the elastic band will get me through about 3/4 of the pregnancy, lol. i'm afraid i'm going to be HUGE though (the women in my family get huge) and i'll need the full panel by the end. the other thing that makes me happy about ON jeans is the cuts are more modern. all i could find around town yesterday was the generic women's jeans cut that's been around for 30 years...sort of somewhere between straight leg and skinny. made my hips HUGE, lol. i so want some real straight leg or boot cut jeans, maybe some trouser cut jeans. that would just make me happy as a clam. (btw - LOVE your new siggy! your girls are so cute!)

thanks for the replies, ladies! i've always struggled with jeans that are long enough...it's hard to find women's jeans in long/tall without spending a fortune anyway, and i was always buying jrs to find modern cuts but they're always too big in the waist and too small in the hips/thighs anymore, and the rise is usually too low too, so the world gets a nice peek at my buttcrack if i'm not wearing a long shirt. (EW!) so frustrating. it looks like ON is the answer though! maybe i'll be able to talk DH into taking an overnight to appleton to buy some maternity stuff and maybe stop off at ikea too. we need some furniture, lol.

Carly,

I'm about the same height as you and I have the opposite problem - all of my maternity pants are too long! I only bought one pair myself - a pair of jeans from Mimi Maternity - the rest were given to me by my DH's cousin and I believe hers were all from Old Navy.

As far as I can tell, the Old Navy's in my area no longer have a maternity section so it's all online now. Although the only thing I have ordered online is a clearance swimsuit.

GL!
