I have a Toyota Highlander with a third row and I really like it! My sister who is 5'7 can fit comfortably in the third row when needed. My dad is 6'4 and fits comfy in the middle row! So plenty of leg room. When the third row is down has a good size trunk area for hauling stuff around. Gets decent mileage too. So that is my recommendation! ;-) Plus car seats fit really easy in it! LOL I've had all 3 of my sisters kids in it just fine!

My mom has a Honda CRV which I used while I stayed with her for the past 3 weeks and I thought it was an awesome family car! It had room for our 2 huge suitcases and the stroller, it also had this great shelf so that you could have the stroller underneath and groceries on top.It had 4 wheel drive which is SUPER nice in the snowy streets of MN, and you could fold over the back seats for more storage if need be. The seats were comfy and there was lots of room in front and in back. When we purchase a 2nd car I would definitely like a Honda CRV or something similar:)

It was a 2011 model though, so I don't know what the big differences are between that and an older model.

I don't have a suggestion on a car, since we are going minivan not SUV. That being said some things to think about, how many children do you plan to have and how long do you keep cars? Most small to midsize SUVs can fit 2 children well, but if you plan to have more then you will likely need a bigger car. Especially if there is only 1 passenger row, because car seats and booster seats are big, and it is tough fitting 3 across.

That being said if you only expect to have 1 or 2 SUVs can work well, just make sure to get one with good trunk space, because a stroller and other small children items take up a lot of room.

We have a minivan right now (DH used it for work, but it's now become our family car), and I sold my sedan before we moved, but once we're ready for a 2nd car again, I really want a crossover/small SUV. My dream mom car is the Nissan Rogue, though I've driven a Pontiac Vibe and loved it (too bad they stopped making them), and would be very happy with a Toyota Matrix or Subaru Uplander too.

I agree with Sarah, think about how many kids you want. If you're thinking one or 2. a small suv should be great. We have a Subaru outback, not really and SUV but spacious, and good for going up the mountains etc, with a nice big trunk area. I really like it, and our 2 carseats fit in it great!

Sara I have a Matrix. It was great with just Desmond, with Desmond and Eloise it was rather squished, and now with newbie it is going to be really really really squished. It is a great little car, but it does not have a lot of trunk room, and if you put a stroller in it, especially a bigger one you can't really fit much else in the trunk. Fortunately this isn't a huge deal for us since we rarely use a stroller, but it really isn't a big car, and the space in it is limited.

We don't have an SUV.... DH has a pick-up (w/ backseats) and I have a PT Cruiser (which I love).

We are a one car family so far and desperately need to upgrade. Anyway, I already lost the argument to DH, we're getting a mini-van much to my chagrin. I would prefer an SUV but he has visions of toting around entire hockey teams and their many huge hockey bags, lol....anyway, Im hoping I can at least get him to agree to the Honda line because I like the look of that particular van.

When we first had Simon we had a Jeep Liberty. It wasn't bad for just one car seat. However with his car seat in the middle it was hard to fit anyone else in the back seat and get buckled in. Also with traveling 1200 miles to see my family it just didn't have enough cargo space for three people, all the cloth diapers and the one dog we had at the time.

We decided to upgrade and got a Chrysler Aspen. I really like it. It has a third row that we normally keep down since I use it to pack stuff around and there is lots of room in the back with Simon. It also has more safety features and brought our insurance down from the Liberty. We also now have two dogs so we have extra room to toat the two of them around and it will better fit more car seats when we get there.
