Monster Headache - Help!

I woke up with a headache this morning, and it hasn't gone away. I have gotten "used" to being sick 24/7, but to add a headache to the mix I just want to give up. I seriously have broken down crying a couple times because I feel so awful and I just can't handle it anymore :S

Does anyone have any advice for how to deal with migraine-grade headaches during pregnancy? Usually I take a couple Advil, lie down for a nap, and it's usually gone. But, I can't do that now. I tried taking extra strength Tylenol and it hasn't even touched it.

Please help me :(

There are pressure points in the arch of your eyes/brow that release headache tension. You place your thumbs in the very corner of your eye arch where your nose ends and on either side you rub in a circular motion. Press upwards as you are doing this.

You can also use a peppermint salve on your temples - you can find this in health food stores. If you can't you can always buy the essential oil and put a little bit on your temples.

Try cold cloths on the back of your neck or forehead. Or try warm ones (different ones work for different ppl).

I have more suggestions but I have to get back to work now. I am a long term headache sufferer and have been there/done that. Hormonal/pregnancy ones are the worst!!

I second the peppermint oil. While I was pregnant I was having pretty bad migraines and my Dr. reccommended combining tylenol and caffeine. I think it's safe to drink like a cup of coffee a day or something like that during pregnancy. Personally caffeine makes me feel sick, so I only did it once, but that might help you.

I had one massage therapist recommend getting into a warm bath (although for pregnancy, not too warm and not in for too long), and take two icecubes and massage the back of your neck on either side of the spine.

Alyssa,

I am a long time migraine sufferer. I was so worried when I got pg about what I would be able to take. My drs also told me that I could take Tylenol and have a can of Pepsi or something with caffeine in it. Have you tried going to a chiropractor? I know a lot of my headaches come from tension in my neck and shoulder area and a chiropractor can help with that. HTH!

Looks like people already have you covered. My only advice would be to go ahead and have 1 cup of coffee's worth of caffeine per day, which is deemed to be safe in the 1T.

Hope you feel better!

Thanks everyone! I ended up going to bed at 8:30 last night because I was feeling so awful - flu-like. I had the headache, and was really nauseous (the worst I've been so far). It was difficult to sleep and I kept waking up every 30 minutes or so.

I feel a bit better now, but still feel really nauseated. My temp was pretty high this morning too (99.1). I think a lot of it is due to not really eating much or even drinking water yesterday. I just couldn't stomach anything.

Anyway, thank you for the tips. I do usually go to a massage therapist, but had to cancel my last appointment because I was feeling so awful. I have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday and will ask her about some of your recommendations.
