Nursery Help

This is total Pregnancy Hormones kicking in, but I had a breakdown last night because my glider doesn't quite fit in the nursery well...

This is cross posted from my blog - the pictures are at my blog

http://jessica-mike.blogspot.com/2010/06/not-quite-how-i-pictured-it.html

So for the past several months we have been trying to figure out the configuration of the nursery. We thought we had it, ordered the Glider, and put up the decals and it was all nice and great! Then Mike put the glider in last night and it's so not going to work how we wanted it to.

So here is the dilemma: What do I do with the Glider?

I just don't know what to do. I was thinking there are two ways.

1. Put the glider where it is in the first picture, keep the ottoman close by and just not in the middle of the room and put the table to the right of it as you are looking at the window in the first picture

2. Move the crib where the table is in the 2nd picture and move the dresser down and put the glider in the corner more..

There is a 3rd option but Mike doesn't like it. I want to put the dresser under the window, but he doesn't want to do that, because of sun damage. But I figure for most of the time the shades will be shut, but maybe not.

I don't know, I am really upset about this because it just doesn't work with the furniture we bought and we thought it would....I am sure it will work out, just frustrating. Any suggestions let me know.

Tough call. Do you have more pics of the nursery? (trying to get a better feel for the rest of the room and it's size)

I'm not doing so well with the pics right now, but in our little nursery we definitely had to have the glider in a corner, otherwise it basically cut off the flow in the entire room. I sometimes push the ottoman closer to the glider when I am not using it, so when I sit down I just push it out (with my feet) until it is a comfy distance from the chair. Based on what I can determine from your pics, I would go with either option 2 or 3. I can understand Mike's concern about sun damage, but with the way I've seen Barrett beat up on his furniture, sun damage may not be the biggest cause of damage to your dresser :)

We ended up moving the glider to our bedroom until Barrett transitioned to his own room anyway so we had a couple extra months to figure out which furniture configuration we liked best. And Jason just got his dad to help him move stuff around until we liked where it all was.

The nursery looks adorable! Good luck getting everything to fit just right.

Since gliders are so big (especially with the ottoman) I think the best place for them are in corners. I really can't tell from your pictures where each piece is in the floor plan, but I'm sure you can re-arrange the furniture to accommodate that.

I don't think putting the dresser under the window would cause that much damage - especially if you have things on top of it (not sure if you're putting a changing pad there?).

Good luck! You'll get it figured out! We're having a heck of a time trying to figure out the placement of furniture for our office, but it's kind of like a fun puzzle for me at this point. I'm hoping we can figure it out before it gets to the frustrating place.

I would second (third?) the suggestion to put the glider in the corner of the room -- gliders are big and they need to be kept away from the wall so it doesn't scratch/dent the wall (something that always annoys me about our glider!). Also, whatever you do I wouldn't store the ottoman away from the glider; you won't want to be hauling the ottoman out with a baby in one arm, you'll want to be able to sit right down and rock and put your feet up. I do the same thing that Brita does, I push the ottoman close to the glider when we're not using it (we have the same issue in our TINY nursey, the glider takes up half the room and goes the length of the crib, but we had to do it since there was no other configuration that worked).

Whatever you end up doing, you will get used to it. I'm still surprised that I got used to the glider in Eliza's nursery - when I first put it in I thought it looked HUGE! But now, it's just a part of the room and I really really like it.

GL!

Thanks ladies, here is a link to all the posts I have about the nursery on my blog

http://jessica-mike.blogspot.com/search/label/nursery

if you scroll down past the first entry you will the finished nursery (Before the glider was put in).

After this weekend DH and I are going to move stuff around a little. I am thinking of putting the crib along the wall that the small table is on, and pushing down the dresser more towards the crib and putting the glider in the corner with the small table under the window. I wanted the table by the glider so that we could put a lamp on there and my breast pump under it or next to it, or have something to set a bottle on later, but if we can't we can't.

Thanks for the advice with the ottoman, right now it's that way because of the party so when people go look at the room it's not in the way, but I should remember I will have a baby in my arms and not want to move it :) Plus we will have a ton of other stuff in there for the baby :)

I am sure we will get it figured out. Anyway, time for my shower in a bit! This heat is killing me, so it will be nice to be in the cool air conditioned house :)
