Welcome Erin! COngrats H&H 9 months to you.

It depends on the Doc/Office but for both my pregnancies I called around 4 weeks - wanted to get it scheduled right away and I had my appointment around 8 to 10 weeks both times. with my DD I didn't have an US scheduled but I ended up getting one at 6.5 weeks because I was bleeding and we wanted to check. with this pregnancy I had an U/S at 9 weeks or so because one I really wanted one and my insurance wouldn't cover any of them except the 20 week unless they were medically neccessary. So my MW "fudged" a little and since i was nursing when I conceived we did a dating U/S. So it just depends. If they have you do an U/S, expect 20 or 30 minutes for the U/S and about the same for the appointment itself, but just ask when you call. they will tell you.

As you go through the appointments in the beginning they are short, especially in the 2nd trimester and they are monthly then when you get closer they are every 2 weeks and then every week I think...I can't remember when you go down to weekly.

How exciting!!

Oh the heartburn......already!! I mean seriously, I eat a piece of bread, heartburn, drink water, heartburn! creamy ice cream heartburn :smileywink:

we finally had a break in the heat and man it's been nice. It was only 80 on Saturday and sunday. we woke up on SUnday morning and it was under 70 degrees out. HEAVEN!!  We had a good weekend without DH again (He is taking al ot of PTO and going away for camping/cabin trips). I went to my parents and Grandma & Grandpa were so excited to see her and she them. My mom was nice enough to get up with her Saturday morning and she was up at 5am. I think the poor girl is teething.

This baby girl inside me is a mover and shaker. Last night I was sitting on the couch and she was doing her samba dance inside and WOW my tummy was moving all over the place, DH was like WTF is she doing in there! I was like she does this ALL the time. Especially when Gabby talks to her and sings to her she moves a TON.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

E--With the OB I saw when pg with Peter, I had an appointment at 7 weeks to get all the paperwork filled out and sign the payment schedule. I then had a dating u/s at 8.5 weeks or so, done by the OB.

This time, I met with the midwives around 8 weeks just to hear about the practice, then had my first appointment at 11 weeks. Since I was charting, they trusted my dates and just listened for a heartbeat. I got the anatomy u/s at 20 weeks and then had a follow-up just to check on a marginal placenta previa at 28 weeks.

I guess I didn't think about that insurance may not cover ultrasounds. Being high risk both pregnancies  (last one with chronic high blood pressure and this one the same and also being over age 35 ) that I know all mine would be covered as they are medically necessary.  Plus, I get two extra ultrasounds like I did last time as well. I guess it's a plus to being high risk.

Jessica- I have had heartburn since the day I got my positive test. I haven't had morning sickness which I feel lucky not to have again and I guess I'd rather get heartburn than being sick,  but I told my doctor nothing was working. The zantac seems to work somewhat she said if it gets really bad she can give me a prescription. With David I was way in my second trimester before I got it.

Yeah, I always throw out the insurance note because my last insurance company didn't cover any US unless they were medically necessary and they didn't see the 20 week anatomy scan as medically necessary. How and insurance company and not your DR having the right to decide what is medically necessary and what isn't is beyond me.

Yay Erin!!! You finally got your BFP!! I called my doc sometime in my 5th week and scheduled my intake appointment. At our doc, they do a dating ultrasound the same day.

We waited until I was roughly 12 weeks to make our announcement to the world. We had told family prior to that time - but only those members that could be sworn to secrecy.

I hope you have a Happy and Healthy 9 months!!

Jess - heartburn is creeping into my reality from time to time. I have found that I have to be very much upright after drinking or eating!

AFM - finally feeling a little better. Kidney infections aren't fun. Don't do it. I don't even really know how it happened - I had zero bladder involvement. I have three weeks until the kids start school and I'm determined to enjoy it!

Jules - Happily married and Momma to DS, DD and expecting our Caboose Baby 11/24/2012

Just jumping in to say that my insurance only covered the 20 week scan unless their was a medical emergency. With Fletcher, we got an ultrasound at 10 weeks because the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. With Jonah, we had one a week after my due date (he was born 11 days after the EDD). With Charlotte, I only had the 20 scan. I used three different practices, but I had the same insurance with all three.

Ruby- That tiredness in the first trimester was so rough! Sometimes I really felt like I just couldn't keep my eyes open another second in the afternoon with Teddy. For me it was much better in the 2nd trimester so I hope the same will go for you. The big brother shirt sounds adorable!

E- Congrats!! I can't help you on the insurance and ultrasound stuff since those things are pretty different here but I hope you can get a hold of your doctor's office soon.

Jules- I'm so sorry about the kidney infection it sounds terrible. Enjoy these last weeks of summer vacation with the kids.

Jess- How cute that baby moves when Gabby sings to her :smileyhappy: I hope your renovations finish soon!

Cheryl- Isn't it a great feeling to pass the glucose test? You are getting close to the end!

Sandy- I am glad you had a good ultrasound.

Amy- Congrats!

AFM- UGH so pregnant! I know it is par for the course at the end but man I feel terrible. I constantly feel like I have the flu, sick to my stomach, hot, stomach pains, pressure when I walk, back pain, tons of pressure on my bladder, etc. I hate being so off my game when it comes to physical stuff, like I really cannot keep up with Teddy sometimes- which he finds hilarious :smileyvery-happy: Also none of my pregnancy stuff fits right anymore, none of the bottoms with panels stay up, and almost all the shirts just sort of hang which makes the belly look way larger and me look less cute. This is all stuff which I would never complain about to anyone besides DH but yeah it is definitely driving me a bit crazy.

Also the comments have started, I knew it was coming but that doesn't make it any less annoying. "When is the baby due? What still a few weeks, but there is no room!" or " Wow are you having two?" " You look so big- like you just put a basketball up your shirt, I have never seen that before- wow!" all things said to me by random strangers in the past days. Also good are the people's eyes who are about to bulge out of their sockets when they stare. Just a few more days/weeks and it will be over though so I am trying to be Zen about it LOL.

My facial and pedi is scheduled for Saturday and we have so much stuff going on that it really would be good if baby didn't come until at least the 17th but when I think about being pregnant that long I kind of think I will just collapse- however at the same time I also am totally unable to picture having a baby here with us so I am at a bit of a stalemate LOL :smileyvery-happy:

E - First impressions are everything - you may want to look into other OB or MW services in your areas. That's terrible to be treated that way.

Ash - Enjoy your facial and pedi... hopefully rude ppl will stay away.

E - I totally agree with Kate, that's ridiculous for her to be treating you that way. I mean really?? Since you are so early I would try to also look for another place to go. I know Ash just switched doctors, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. Think of 9 months dealing with that reciptionist making your appointments, so not fun!! HUGS! ALso I have never heard of an orientation for women, but like others said every one is different. Hopefully your insurance covers your U/S.

Ash - I am so so so sorry you have to deal with all those stupid @$$ comments, I mean really? Why do people feel they can comment on pregnant women's bodies and all that. stupid. I still remember one day walking into work and I was 37 or 38 weeks pregnant with Gabby and feeling huge and uncomfortable because it was August and this random woman who I didn't know was like "oh how far along are you" and I told her 38 weeks and she goes "Oh hunny, you should be home resting, not working." Really?? you don't know my situation at all....not to mention the fact that I couldn't afford all that time off and what would I do with myself??

The tums worked yesterday so that's good :smileyhappy: DH thinks that I am getting some of my heartburn from the chocolate that I put on my ice cream :smileywink: not that I am going to give that up. Funny story, Gabby woke her sister up this morning with her yelling for me to get out of bed. All of a sudden her sister was moving around and I swear this baby is an alien with all her movement.
