Natalie - I wonder if we'll manage a board hat trick and your baby comes on the 22nd ;) As Amos was a bit early though, I'm not sure if that'll happen!
Ash - FWIW two of my friends who had a vaginal, but assisted birth first time (forceps), have had a much easier time second time - shorter labour and instead of 2-3 hours pushing, just a few minutes. Two pushes and the baby was out. I totally believe that the body "remembers" and labours much more effectively second time around (even my own labour was a bit faster, although still super slow).

Natalie- So sorry to hear about the night terrors! I hope Amos Jr will be able to sleep peacefully in his bed soon.

Katja- I agree with Nat: you should name your child whatever you like; a fourth generation is not too much.

Ruthie,

My mom threw my bridal and baby showers (I don't have any siblings, my closest friend lives in another state, and DHs family never offered) so I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

You could do a post-baby shower. Or you could just scrap it altogether. My SIL was dead set against one when she was pg so everyone just brought their gifts when they came to visit baby.

Big hugs Ruthie! My mom told everyone she was planning a shower for my first so no one else planned one and then she told me one day she would not be giving me a shower because no one wanted to celebrate my "mistake". My older sister dated her fiance 4 months before TTC and my mom said because they planned theirs that's why she threw them a shower.

With the twins I had no one here. A friend said she'd do it and give me all this baby stuff (double stroller, pack n plays, swings, bouncers, double of all those) and she never did. She still hasn't met the twins. It does make me sad that I never got that experience and no one wanted to celebrate my children. So I'm so sorry you are going through the same thing too. :(

Ruthie- i think it is perfectly ok if your mom trows you a baby shower... there are no rules you know? :)

And about the lack of friends... I think as long as you can gather a bunch (5 or 6 women) you can have a great time. It doesn't need to be a huge affair either!

Ruthie - how also said showers had to be only women? My cousin's was a co-ed one... the ladies did lady things and the men fished... it was a blast. If someone is asking when you're shower is tell them the truth, for all you know they may offer to throw you one.

Kate is right! You could totally have a co-ed shower, in fact... it would probably be much more fun!

Natalie- Yay for Amos Jr sleeping through again!!! I'm glad baby is head down, not much longer now!

Ruthie- I think you should totally have a shower and let whoever you want and think will do a good job plan it. A co-ed shower can be a lot of fun and honestly even just going out for a day of pampering with one or two friends could also be a great baby-showeresque activity. My baby shower wasn't big at all. In fact I had specifically not wanted one because I thought it would suck having it here in Germany but in the end about 7 of my friends here got together and planned one for me and it was really great. I was so shocked that they had gone to the trouble (my SIL even brought decorations from the States for me) and really the amount of people or gifts is so unimportant the nice thing is having people think of you and want to do something special for you before the baby comes. So if there is a possibility to make it work you should go for it.

Jennifer- I don't want to worry you but the big baby genes definitely come from DH's side- I was only 6 pounds!!!! He was 9 and a half.....Although honestly I was SO big at the end that I shouldn't have been surprised, I really looked like I was carrying twins. When I look at pictures now I am seriously shocked somehow back then I was oblivious. I hope you have a great appt on Wednesday!! I think telling loved ones and having them get excited is really one of the nicest parts of being pregnant.

AFM- First big ultrasound appt is tomorrow (we have 3 big ultrasound appts here in Germany although you have more then that). I'm excited to see something which hopefully looks like a baby!
