Ok ladies, I need your opinions.
DH and I have a bit of extra money in the bank right now and there are a few things that have been on my mind lately.
Smart and sensible...
Our car is 12 years old. In the last 2 years, we've replaced the battery, alternator, some belts and brakes. This car will probably be off the road in the next year and we probably wont buy a brand new car but probably something no more than 5 years old. So the smart and sensible side of me (us) is to take the money we have and continue to save it, put it aside for the car down payment and also to help support when I'm off work in May. I will still be getting employment insurance payments though but its definitely half of my current salary. THis current car is also our only car.
Fun and frivolous...
DH and I have taken many small weekend trips and fun activities around Ontario and the US (mostly home in the US) since we've been married. The last trip we went on was our honeymoon two years ago. I would really like a trip before the baby arrives sometime in January or February. I'm thinking of an all-inclusive resort somewhere in the Carribean or possibly the Florida Keys for a week. I honestly dont care that I can't drink (booze is abundant at all-inclusives which so many people point out and it really doesnt matter to me). I just want a week with my husband to enjoy him, the weather, relaxation and good food. Plus I will be right around 5-6 months PG which isn't too late in my pregnancy that I will be uncomfortable or huge either.
So what would you do? We wouldnt blow everything in the savings account, and I've considered that I will be teaching again in March so that is an extra 1000 bucks plus our tax return.
