spotting again
29
Fri, 08-28-2009 - 8:44pm

this time it's heavier...kinda dark red/brownish red, mixed with either creamy or EWCF. it's still light (only on the TP so far), but i'm freaking out again. i had a little bit of cramping/lower back pain earlier today, but it felt more like a side effect of the gas/constipation, and seemed to clear up after i went to the bathroom.

i really really hope tadpole stays stuck! DH is worried too...i'm just going to keep an eye on it tonight, and if it gets worse we'll call the doc or go to the ER.

Oh Carly
, I'm so sorry! (((HUGS))) I know that is so scary :( I'm thinking of you, hoping that it's nothing to worry about. I think your plan is good to call the doc or go to the ER if it gets heavier. KUP!

thanks for the kind words, mari and ella. it's weird...it was sort of "chunky" last night, KWIM? that's why i assumed it was mixed with some kind of thicker CF, because it definitely wasn't tissue. at 6am i took my temp and it was still up (98.65), and i had no spotting then. then just now it's back, only it no longer looks old...more true red. still light though, only on the TP. i'm going to continue to take it easy and keep an eye on it today. i hope it goes away on its own, in short order.

what's really freaking me out is that my friend who is now on the equivalent of bedrest at 16w and change (has been for about 3 weeks now) had very light brown spotting around the same time i am now (she was roughly 7w). i'm just freaked out.

Oh Carly I'm so sorry! How nerve-wracking! Did you put in a call to your Dr. to ease your mind a bit? If nothing else, you could probably get an u/s and a peek at the baby!

Oh gosh Carly I am just so sorry you are dealing with this:( In your place I think I might head to the ER or doctor so I could get an U/S and ease my worries but no matter what you do, I hope that the baby is just settling in and that everything is fine!!!!

thanks to everyone for the well-wishes! here's the update (beware, there's some TMI)...

i did call my family practice's doc on call because i started getting light cramps right after i posted here, and i wasn't impressed with him (he was kinda less than helpful). he basically told me that it's nothing to worry about, unless i have severe bleeding or pain. uh, well i'm not gonna wait till it's severe buddy.

no sooner than i got off the phone with him, i went to the bathroom and passed a clot that was about 3/4" long by 1/2" wide, which freaked me out. after that, light flow of dark red blood. (this is all within half an hour of talking to the doc.) so i got a quick shower and DH and i headed off to the emergency room. they got me back there right away, the nurse took down my info, and the doc came in to talk to me. he told me that it was likely i was miscarrying, then proceeded to tell me how common it is, etc. i understand this was his attempt at making me feel better, but quoting the statistics was not helping. he left to let me get changed, and i was crying the whole time. poor DH didn't know what to do. the nurse came back in and took my blood to run it for HCG, and then the doc came back to do the internal exam. while he was in there, he swabbed off my cervix and said that all the blood in there was dark, meaning it was old, and that nothing was coming out of my cervix at that time, and that both of these things were good signs. then he left again, after telling us that i would be getting an ultrasound next.

then the u/s tech came and got us. she did both external and trans-vaginal. lil tadpole was there! she let us hear the heartbeat twice (once with each type...126 and 128 bpm respectively), took some measurements, showed us the bloodflow through the heart, printed us some pictures...it was wonderful. tadpole is measuring 6w5d (one day ahead) and the gestational sac is measuring 6w6d (two days ahead). she also told me i O'ed from my right ovary (which is good, because that was the one i was worried about). we went back to my room.

the doc came back after almost an hour, saw me sitting there with pictures in my lap and said, "oh i should have just come to you instead of hunting down the radiologist, it's always a good thing when they give you pictures." ha ha. anyway, he says with bleeding, they catagorize it as a "threatened miscarriage", since i'm not actually miscarrying now, but if the bleeding gets worse, i might. i had to ask him how my bloodwork came back, and all he said was that my "hormone levels are WAY up there", whatever that means. i was looking for "normal" or "within the acceptable range", or possibly a number. i have instructions to take it easy this weekend and follow up with my doctor on monday. she may or may not tell me i need to take it easy for a certain amount of time, depending on how things go between now and then. regardless, i don't think i want to do any kind of field work in the next few weeks, just to play it safe. i'm supposed to go and help with soil borings at a site on thursday and friday of this week. i guess i'm telling work this week. we'll have to see how it goes.

boy was it amazing to hear tadpole's heart beating though! it was a momentous occasion for DH too, i think (although when i ask him he keeps telling me this whole day for him has been momentous as far as making it more real for him).

Carly! What a few days you've had :( I'm sorry about everything that has been going on! I'm so glad that you went to your doctor and saw that the little tadpole is ok and had such a good little heartbeat. I have a friend that had some pretty bad bleeding early on and they though she was losing the baby too. But everything turned out to be fine...basically it was just a little pocket of blood that was releasing.

Definitely take it easy at work for a while and pulling up all your carpet! Maybe you should leave that one to DH!

KUP!
