Okay, well, I feel like I'm not going to even be able to put it into words, but we went to my parent's house on Saturday night and Sunday around noon my two grandmas, my aunt, uncle, and two cousins, joined my parents and two of my three sisters at my parents house. So we ate lunch and after lunch we went into the living room for everyone to open their cards.
Usually each person takes a turn opening each of their cards, so I basically decided to let everyone have their turn, and then to give out my cards (to my two grandmas and my Mom) and tell them all to open them together.
I decorated the cards yesterday, putting copies of the 6 and 9 week u/s pics, and a copy of a picture out of "Your pregnancy week-by-week" that had the 12-week "actual size" baby picture, in the cards. I wrote like: "You're going to be a (Great) Grandma!" and then next to the pics, I was like: "Here's a picture of your grandchild at 6 weeks . . . and look how big (s)he got by 9 weeks! And here's how big it is now!" And then wrote a little messages saying the due date, etc. I also included in each card a "ticket to hear the baby's heartbeat" and a "ticket to the baby's birth".
So, they started opening the cards, and my two grandma's got it first because their cards just said: "Hi Great-Grandma!" in big letters on the front but my poor mother (LOL) just was reading this paragraph on the front of hers and it just took her (well, what seemed like forever) to realize. But my whole family was gathered in this room and my Grandma's hopped up first and were crying and hugging me and James and each other, and then my parents and everyone started. And seriously, EVERYONE was crying and hugging and being so happy and excited. My grandma was like: "YOU'VE MADE ME SO HAPPY!" (while crying ridiculously). I can't even really encompass how . . . loving and crazy it was all at once. My one sister was semi-hysterically crying for LITERALLY like ten minutes, she could NOT contain herself.
But eventually everyone sat back down and then all the questions started--LOL--are you seeing a doctor (midwife), how will you decorate the nursery (we're not going to have one!), are you going to find out what it is (yes), are you thinking about names (yes, but we're not telling yet), etc.
And then shortly after this we had to rush out of there to go have dinner with James' family--on the hour and a half car ride I felt totally shell-shocked, practically like I'd just found out again--and then I fell asleep. :-P
Anyway, it was only his Mom and Step-Dad and Brother and SIL at his parents house--and as soon as we got there, his Brother got their present and card out, so we gave James' Mom her card too, and this was REALLY funny because she was reading it out loud--and the front says something like: "Once upon a time there was this family with a really nice Grandma", so she read that, and then opened it and started reading like "This is a picture of your grandchild at 6 weeks . . . " and I swear she read the entire thing out loud and it wasn't until she got to the part where I had written: "You're going to have a new Grandbaby" that she FINALLY realized, and looked up, like: "OMG you're PG!?" And I was like: "Yeah, what do you think you've been reading out loud for like 10 mins?" It was very funny.
But there were no tears at this house--it was just not quite the same with such a smaller crowd--so slightly anticlimactic after the ridiculous goings-on at my parents house--but they were really happy for us, and since my SIL and BIL are TTC, my SIL was totally like: HOW DID YOU DO IT?! Tell me! LOL!
But yeah, then we had a nice dinner, and went to see the movie Babies (which was very cute and awesome), and finally we arrived home at like 10:30 and promptly fell asleep. :-D
So that was my Mother's Day announcement day!
But I realized when I came home that my sister had posted on FB that I was pregnant, and then the next morning my Dad posted something, too, and I was like: "Damn it family!" (Because I hadn't really intended to put it on FB yet), but finally today I posted on there that I am pregnant, so now it is officially totally out in the open. Which is a little strange but hey, I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow, so I guess it's time. :-)
