Third Trimester Chat August

Here is the place to talk about things specifically related to the third trimester:)

There is still going to be a general pregnancy chat so no one should feel left out or anything like that- just thought this would help with the huge amount of posts in one thread, which can be overwhelming.

Well, I will start something here since I think there are only 2 of us, although more should be joining shortly. I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. Now I just have to get William's room altogether. I am hoping his furniture arrives in the next 2 wks.

Hey Elyse! I guess it's just you and me :) But not for long, a few ladies are only a couple weeks behind us, I think..

You'll have to post pics when you get William's room together, I'd love to see the finished room! I'll do the same -- we're doing a TON of work in the nursery, so it's going much slower than we expected (big surprise - HA!), but I think it's going to be great!

I definitely will post pics of William's room when it's finished. It is also taking longer than expected. Partly bc DH is doing the plastering and window work himself; great money saver, but completion is at the mercy of his real job. It has been so humid, that the plaster he put up last weekend hasn't fully dried. Once that happens, it needs sanding and a second skim coat, then a second sanding and finally the room can be painted. We did get out glider/rocker delivered Saturday so I know it's getting closer!!!

I scheduled our hospital preview/tour for next Tuesday and I found a pediatrician/peds group that I like and am all set for that. Now to read up on birthing methods, etc since I refuse to pay nearly $200 for the class and it's only offered on week nights that I work late. I am sure I am find some online videos and I have been collecting books/articles. I can't believe how close Nov. really is.

How are things going with you?

Wow, your DH sounds very handy! Very nice. My dad is working on the nursery with me while DH is at work during the day -- they are both fairly handy, but not in sheet rock or plaster work, so that's what we hired the contractor for. We decided to restore the original woodwork (baseboards, window trim), which required stripping the paint off and then scraping away what was left with teeny tiny little instruments for TWO DAYS. It was so tedious, but it's looking great and I'm really glad we decided to strip the paint and save the wood instead of just painting over it. I'm thinking I'll change the wood color of the crib we picked out now that we have natural woodwork in there...

Anyway, everything else is going great! My MIL threw me a shower on Sunday, which was really sweet of her. Although NO ONE bought off our registry - everyone bought us clothing, and we only got *one* receipt so we can't return anything. OMG, we have SO MANY baby girl clothes now, we don't need ANY more (we started with a huge donation from a good friend of all her baby's 0-12 month clothes, so we really didn't need any to begin with). Oh well, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but...er...I hope guests at my other showers buy us stuff off the registry (or at least give us receipts). From now on, I am ALWAYS buying practical baby shower gifts for people ;)

Yay for getting your glider! Which one did you pick out? We like one at BRU, but it's like $500... not sure if it's worth it... are you happy with yours?

Our glider came from a local furniture store. DH wasn't thrilled with the craftsmanship of the BRU ones- I didn't care as long as I got one. It cost about $350 and we have a ton more options for wood finishes and fabric. So far, I love the glider and will sit in the empty room that we put it in just to sit in the glider. I would definitely suggest looking at some furniture stores since many will be offering good deals this time of year trying to get the old inventory out and the new in. The glider is cherry colored with a medium blue fabric.

My has also been helping a bit with the room. He took out one the window- original 1840's window- stripped the paint and putty off, removed the glass, and fixed the divots that were in the wood. Now it needs a final sanding, glass put back in, and a painting.

I have way too much clothing for William, but no one we know either has young kids or is planning on it soon, so everything is new. I found such great deals on some things that even if they only get worn once I'm okay with it. I have my first shower 9/19. We had to split the family/friends into 2 groups bc I couldn't ask anyone to drive 4+ hours for a short event so I will be having one in CT and one in NH. Hopefully I'll get practical stuff from the registry.

Thread crashing- On shower gifts- I have long held that position of although baby clothes are cute, the baby really needs the practical stuff. My typical gift is a cute basket full of the cheap little necessities on the registry- like a comb, bath stuff, thermometer etc. Then I throw in some diapers and one cute thing (also from the registry) like a blanket or a bib, to fill that need to buy something cutesy as well.

They are always very appreciative. :-) Sorry... just wanted to add my 2cp :-D

Thanks! I think that is a GREAT idea and I might just steal it next time I go to a baby shower :)

To add to Lisa's suggestion...I was at a baby shower for a friend last summer and one of the guests got her a basket that had very practical items in it like diapers and baby laundry detergent. This friend was also waiting until the birth to find out the gender so that avoided an overload of pink clothing.

Welcome to the 3T, Noel! Elyse and I are kind of quiet these days, so this thread often falls of the front page... glad to have a third member! I can't believe how many women there are in the 1st and 2nd trimesters, and how few there are in the 3T. Shows what a lack of BFPs we had around here for so long, and then what an explosion there was!

I've been feeling pretty good, though I am finding that I get tired more quickly and I need more hours of sleep than before. I don't have any real aches or pains to speak of yet... so I'm counting my blessings! I also don't feel "huge", though I often wonder if I don't look it! ;) Mostly, I'm just nervous and excited about meeting my little girl soon. The nursery is almost completely finished and we're nearly ready for her! She's a really active little thing, so I'm wondering if that will correlate with her behavior outside of the womb??!! Did you find that with your kids?
