Worried: Pink Mucus

This morning I went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was a LOT of mucus. Very much like EWCM, but much more than I've seen since getting PG. About an hour later I went to the bathroom again and this time there was a lot of mucus tinged with blood.

I know it's normal to lose the mucus plug, and it doesn't mean labor is coming RIGHT NOW - but me being only at 30 weeks I'm kind of worried.

I called my midwife at her non-urgent number, because I'm not having any contractions or anything. But she probably won't respond for 1-2 days.

Any words of advice would be appreciated. TIA.

Alyssa--I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Hopefully some of the mucus plug is still there.

Here is a link I found about it:

If I were you I would call your midwife's urgent number if you don't hear from her. If Evan was born soon, he would be okay, but the more notice you have the more you could do in terms of giving him meds to develop his lungs, etc.

I will be thinking of you this week and hoping everything is okay.

Was the bloody show following anything? Too much activity, stress, heavy lifting, sex, etc?

From what I understand you can loose your plug up to 6 weeks before labor starting. My OBs office wants to know if you loose your plug before 38 weeks.

If I were you I would call the emergency line, better to be safe. KWIM? And I would stay off my feet and drink plenty of fluids until they tell you otherwise.

Hi Kate - the only thing I can think of is I was helping move some stuff around on Friday. It wasn't particularly heavy, but maybe it was heavy enough?

So, I did get my midwife paged and she called back. She doesn't seem worried because I haven't had any other signs of pre-term labor. She said this happens to many women, and it can be brought on by anything that might change the cervix a bit (like lifting things, or BH contractions). I did have a couple minutes last night where my belly tightened, and I'm guessing this was BH - so maybe that was enough?

Anyway, she said what usually happens is your body just regenerates a new mucus plug. I am to call her though if I start getting regular contractions.

I feel a bit better, but still a bit worried, since it is early.

The belly tightening would be BH, and that makes sense seeing you were doing some lifting. So it all kind of comes together.

I can see where you would still be worried, but I think she gave you some really nailed it on the head. Personally I would just take it easy today and try and stay off my feet for the day.

Thanks Kate! I think I get worried when I see any blood because the last time that happened I ended up having a miscarriage. I guess I'm not entirely over that experience, because I'm starting to worry a lot more as this pregnancy starts drawing to a close. I thought the first part of this pregnancy would be the hardest, but that doesn't seem to be the case!

Anyway - thanks for your support! I will post an update if anything changes.

Alyssa--I'm glad things seem to be okay--I was thinking about you while I was on vacation and kept wondering how you and Evan were doing. I'm so glad to hear the good news. :-)
