This is something that I'm noticing from the EC/playgroups that many first timers are unaware and get really freaked out over.

It seems to be the worst for me from about 3 to 6 months postpartum. It has gotten a lot better here in the past week or two, though it is still falling out a bit. It really does feel like you are losing all your hair though since every time you run a hand through your head you come back with a huge clump of hair in it! To bad I only seem to lose my dark hairs, not my grey ones *grin*.

Wow girls... thanks SO much for mentioning that!!! It's exactly the kind of thing that would freak the hell out of me, so knowing beforehand that it's normal it's great!

I have always experienced this, but I also get thicker hair & stronger nails during PG. I wonder if people who don't get the thicker hair during PG also have a bunch of hair thinning afterwards?

i had heard something about this...does it grow back afterward? or is it "extra" hair growth that was stimulated by the hormones that you lose? i've experienced something similar after i had surgery the first time because i was so sick and the anesthesia, and also the second time i had surgery but not as bad. but that was my actual hair, lol. it got really thin, and then started growing back later and for a long time about half my hair was growing in. it was awful. it's not going to be like that is it? please tell me it won't be like that...

:P

Carly - I can't speak for everyone, since this isn't something I've discussed with many people. For me, it's not like what you describe after your surgery. For me it was just the extar hair growth, that was stimulated by PG hormones, shedding so my hair could go back to normal.

The hair on the sides of my head is still trying to go back to matching the rest of my hair length from my 3rd child.

I keep saying I'm going to shave my head because I'm sick to death of picking strands of hair off my clothes, off the baby, and out from between her fingers! Ugh! I always used to shed a little bit, but during the 2nd half of pg I stopped losing hair altogether. It was great! But a few weeks pp it started to REALLY fall out. I've only pulled out clumps a couple of times, but I am constantly shedding several strands at a time.
