I have an appointment to get a tattoo on October 15th. It looks like I O'd on Friday, so AF is scheduled to arrive at the latest on October 16th.

I plan on testing the days leading up to my appointment. My question is what should I do based on my test results?

Just for your info (in case it helps) the tattoo will be on top of my left foot, near the toes. I will also be getting a very small one on my right ankle (adding on to another one).

Oh, and please answer based on how this relates to pregnancy, not your opinion of tattoos! LOL

Thanks ladies!

Alyssa...I just looked it up, you peaked my interest at this because I love tattoos and have wanted to get another one as well.

They say to not get one if pregnant, so maybe move your appointment or test and then decide.

Good luck!

I would test the day before and if I got a negative go for it. The chances of a test not working that close to AF are really, really low.

Thanks for the info, Jess and Ash, and to everyone else who have voted so far. I think I'll probably go for it if my tests are negative, since it will be so close to when AF should arrive.

For those of you who answered to get a tattoo regardless of the test result, can you give me more info on why you chose that option? Just wondering - I want to get as much info as I can!

I voted to get it if negative but not if positive. If you are PG that month, you SHOULD be able to get a positive test a day before your period is due. So if it is negative, you should be fine.

If you KNEW you were PG, I would just as soon avoid it, mostly because if anything was to happen, you wouldn't want to be questioning something like that.

I voted don't get tattoo this month just in case. Most home pregnancy tests are still only 97% accurate even on the day of your missed period. So you still can get a false neg. This pregnancy I didn't get my positive until the day my period was due.

I forget exactly which I voted... But it seems to me like the major risks - HIV/hep B (which you're really not at risk for going to a good tattoo parlor) wouldn't be less risky if it were a month before you got pregnant than if you already were pregnant.

I also don't think the amount of ink is going to pose any real risk if you were pregnant. But, to that end, if the HPT is negative then your blood supply and the embryo aren't linked yet anyway, so I think that at least if the test that morning is negative there's no reason not to do it (even if it turns out you are pregnant).

Eh, I guess I actually would hold off if I knew I were pregnant, but not for any good reason. Then again, I don't have any tattoos, so it's a much more extreme idea for me to consider for myself :)

I voted for not at all, bc you're TTC. Tattoos & piecrings are taxing on the body's immune system & it could hamper your ability to get PG or weaken your system so your body doesn't do as well if you do get PG. Just my 2cents. :)

I voted whether or not bc these risks are the same to a pg and non pg woman. Most tattoo artists won't do it if they know you are pg though, so that might be a hint not to.

Personally (as a lover of ink with 4 myself) I side with Adrienne. If something was to go wrong, you'd have that nagging guilt...

I gave myself a shot everyday (4 everyday at the end) during pgcy bc of a genetic disorder I have, but have never had a symptom of to avoid that what if scenario.
