BDDT: Charting questions

I'm so happy to be near my NPP date! I know this section is pretty ok with TMI, so here it goes: Last time, when I was preparing to TTC my boy, I charted three months, just to learn my cycles. We used protection during my fertile days the whole time, except once (5 days before O)... That ONE time was enough to concieve! LOL!! Now I also want to chart, although I won't obsess about it. (That's why we call it NPP, instead of TTC.) That's what we did during our vacation although I'm pretty sure there were no fertile signs yet. The only thing I've noticed is that sperm alters my CM, making it look like EW for a few hours. How do you tell the difference in order to chart? And also, Fedestill wakes up once or twice in the night. i have to get up and go to his room to help him go back to sleep. Do you think I'll be able to temp accurately?

I was never really able to trust my CM for the same reason you described, and I found that it was hard for me to tell anyway from day to day. I also never temped, much for the same reason as you described with Fede--Evan had me up at all hours still when I started charting, so I didn't see a point to temping because I didn't think I'd be able to gauge it consistently.
What I did do, which worked well for me, was pay attention to my CP and firmness. I also approximated when I would O and use condoms then(using a large window because we were preventing for 5 months before TTC)and used OPKs to get an idea of when to expect Oing to happen. My cervix would go from super soft to very hard within a day of Oing so I was able to know almost exactly when I Oed just by checking that.
HTH!

I think the big difference between sperm and EWCM is the spinnbarkeit - if you have it between thumb and pointer, EWCM will stretch a few inches whereas sperm won't stretch at all or only a little bit.

I was able to temp fine with Barrett waking up once or twice a night (and nursing him). If he woke up in the early morning (like 5:00 AM or after), I would just take my temp before I went in to him. It's definitely worth trying to see if yours are accurate.

I completely gave up on charting temps because of the up-and-down of our nighttimes. While still trying to avoid and when TTC #3, Jonah was still up to nurse several times each night. Temping was just silly. The same was the case when TTC #2. So instead of charting temps, I charted CM and cervical position. Checking for position makes some people uncomfortable, but I found it to be simple and very helpful in understanding my cycles.

Semen does confuse the CM issue. We almost always made love at night, so I just ignored my first one or two CM checks the next day, knowing that it would not be accurate. By mid-day or afternoon, I could get an accurate check, and I just recorded that.

Good luck!

Ok. So this means that unless fede suddenly learns to STTN (which would be freakin fantastic!), I can forget about temping. CM could work, but I could never be absolutely sure until I get loads of practice distinguishing EW from semen.. yikes! As for cervical position... it kind of creeps me out! Not that I think my cervix is gross or anything like that, but I would be always fearing to bring germs "up there" and couase some sort of infection. I don't want to give up charting, it was so good to know my cycles lat time, maybe I should call it "loosely carting"

"Loosely charting" is a good way to think of it. I know quite a few moms who charted temps despite frequent waking at night, and they still saw a discernible pattern. So, your charts might not be as precise as before, but they can still be very helpful. Especially since the body temp is more useful for seeing if O was already happened, not to predict it. Give it a try.

It's been almost a month and still no AF!! Should I be worried? (BTW, I don't feel pregnant at all)

"Inquiring minds"... LOL!! I tested yesterday and it was a clear negative. I have an appt. with my Gyn next week. I suppose my PCOS is kicking in and that's the reason why my cycles aren't back yet.
