Even though we aren't TTC until July, my OB wants me on prenatals now. She gave me a prescription and they gave me terrible side effects. Anyone have any recommendations for a good prenatal? I was bummed because the pharmacy provided them for free but I just can't take them.

I've heard that it's good for every woman in her child bearing years to be on a prenatal vitamin in case you end up pregnant by accident...that way you already have the vitamins that you need to keep your baby safe.

I am taking gummy prenatals (I forget the brand name, but I bought them at Target) - I brought them to my OB and he said they were fine. I have a hard time swallowing really big pills, so these were awesome!

I took Target brand prenatal vitamins while TTCing DS and when I had my first OB appt, I asked if I should be on a prescription one and she said all prenatals are basically the same!

I've been taking Thorne prenatals for the last three years. I was told by my doc that they are one of the best out there. Very pure ingredients and also vegetarian. I order them from Amazon. I've never had any side effects with them.

I take a food based vitamin--technically it's 6 pills per day but I take 2 or sometimes 3 if I remember mid-day. Food based vitamins have better absorption by the body so even taking less of them might be better . . . some people have luck with a multivitamin plus extra folic acid. You could take to your OB and ask if that would do the trick . . . I take most things seperately, another reason I don't worry about taking only 2 a day versus 6. I also take extra folic acid, extra Vit D, extra Calcium/Magnesium, extra DHA . . .

My doc suggested I go on them as soon as I TTC - so I am. Just taking the Kirkland stuff from Costco! ;)
