DH Blew freakin Gasket!!

So I'm talking to DH about how i hope the hospital will change it's policy of no kids or allow some flex by the time our sweetpea comes next month. Then I decide to go ahead & tell him that I'm going to try & get myself & the kids vaccinated for H1N1, IF I can get the mercury free version.

He completely LOST IT!! He got so so angry, it was really over the top!! He's completely convinced, without nay evidence at all, that there's some subversive reason why there's so much hype about getting the vaccine. He refuses the idea that maybe, just maybe, medical people are trying to save lives! It's so infuriating!

I get that he's into conspiracy theories, but I can't take it that his every outlook on the world is negative! Why can't he just think about the less evil possibilities & consider that they may be real?!!!

I did finally get him to calm down & talk to me some, but he won't tell me anything that he's even heard or read about the vaccine itself being bad in some way. He has all of this stuff about how the virus was genetically engineered or other such things, but nothing about the vaccine itself.

I just don't get him going so ballistic over this. He's always left all of the medical decisions up to me bc he couldn't bring himself to make them or even to deal with thinking about them. And he has to choose when I'm 8 mths PG to get passionate about one. He doesn't even believe that a pregnant woman or a baby is immune compromised in any way. It's a medical FACT!!!

ARRRGGG!!!

Just had to vent. I have no issue whatsoever with people deciding either way on this or any other medical thing. We all have the right to come to our own conclusions. I just don't get my own DH getting so freaked out.

ugh Noel! I'd totally lose it on him! It's one thing for him to believe that stuff (which is absolute NONSENSE), but for him to put his children and wife in danger is completely different. What difference does it make if H1N1 was genetically engineered or not (and it's NOT)?? Either way, it's still going around, infecting millions.

Not sure how you guys ended the fight, but whatever his opinion, I'd "go over his head" and get the vaccine for your kids.

You know, I went on a whole rant about the controversy over this, but I know you ladies already know all about it so I'll save it for someone who doesn't! LOL

Thanks ladies! I don't care if people believe conspiracy theories or not. It's up to him if he wnats to believe it. The problem I have is that it's all theories. There's no evidence at all.

As for going over his head, I absolutely would/ will. I wasn't asking him, I was telling him what I had decided. I always make the medical decisions for the kids, after all. Mostly bc he can't/ won't.

Anyway, DH called & sort of apologized. What he said was ‘Conspiracy theories & things I’ve read on the internet aren’t worth ruining our relationship over. So I’m letting it go.’ Like I said, sort of an apology. Better than him continuing to be angry & freaked out anyway.

Noel, I'm so sorry that your DH reacted like this!! It sounds totally unreasonable, but I really don't know him or where he "comes from" about this stuff...

It's a good thing that he sort of apologized. i mean, if he feels so strongly about this as to start a big fight, then it's a big proof of his love for you and your relationship that he is willing to let it go.

Hang in there sweety, I know things are not the brightest right now, but we are here for you to vent!

Noel, you should have agreed with him - that would have confused him ;-) You could have said, "it is no great secret that the driving factor behind the push is MONEY and PROFIT! Of course they want every single person in the world to buy their product - it is not a conspiracy theory, it is common knowledge."

I have been accused of being a conspiracy theorist myself. I'm not really. I understand capitalism, corporate greed and how the geopolitical world works. Yes, they are hyping H1N1 so they can get everyone lined up to use their vaccines...and the gov'ts have to respond bc the people want it. The seasonal flu vaccine happens every year and it is not a conspiracy...they are just utlizing the hype to sell more product which is no different from any other corporation.

I would agree tho that there is a lot of misinformation out there. Someone on my EC board said her doc told her the mortality rate was 25%. I told that person to get a new doctor! Even the 1918 spanish flu only had a rate of 2%! That is clearly fear mongering. Swine flus rate has been estimated between .o07-.o45%.
