This is the first I've heard of this trend, giving birth in the ocean near a dophin pod:
According to Sirius: "Some of the reported occurrences include a mother and a baby playing with the dolphins within 45 minutes of the birth, another instance of a free dolphin escorting a newborn human baby to the surface for its first breath. According to Igor Smirnoff, the [Russian] research director, water babies develop six months faster over their first two years."
When one asks oneself, "What could possibly go wrong?" there are potential answers in the dozens. Dolphins are clearly intelligent, and often seem friendly to humans, but they are, after all, wild animals and prolific marine predators, known to attack each other as well as other species -- yes, even humans -- without apparent warning.
I hope they report on if the parents in the article go through with this, and how it went for them. It's not my cup of tea, but sure is interesting. Would this be something you'd consider doing?
