I know from an earlier discussion that there are a good many of us who love Diana Gabaldon's series of books... so I was wondering if some of you who have already read the book would like to talk about it.

If you are in the middle of the book, tread carefully in this section, because I don't want to ruin the book for someone, but I do plan on an open discussion of the book.

For those who have read it-

Did you enjoy the book as much as her previous ones?
What was your favorite part?
What part did you like the least?
What are you most looking forward to finding out about in the next book?

Did you enjoy the book as much as her previous ones?

Ever since I read her first book I was hooked, but this was by far my LEAST favorite book. It focused wayyyy too much on John and William, and on battles and stuff I didn't care about. The scenes that I was interested in quickly moved away, and I found myself flipping ahead to see those scenes, and then sighing, and going back through the muck to get there legitimately. I enjoyed it towards the end, but then I was sincerely annoyed by how many complete and utter loose ends she left at the end of the book.

What was your favorite part?

The scenes between Brianna, Roger, Jem and Mandy in the 1980's. I really enjoyed those sections, and was really disappointed by how few there were.

What part did you like the least?
SPOILER ALERT (in case you missed the first one)
I HATED the fact that Claire so quickly acquiesced to marrying Lord John, and worse than that, that she slept with him! 1- I don't think that she would accept Jamie's death so easily, without at least some time passing. 2- I might (repeat might) accept that she marry Lord John for his protection from her being in trouble as a spy, but I do not think that she would agree to sleep with him so quickly. If it happened, I think it would be after weeks of growing closer to him throughout the tragedy, slowly accepting Jamie's absence and seeing John in a new light. Since that time didn't pass, I don't think she would have done it.

What are you most looking forward to finding out about in the next book?
As I said before I am interested in the Roger/Brianna/ Jem story line. Is Roger really back in the past, or did he get pulled back from it? In any case, Jem is currently kidnapped, and Brianna has a villian in her home to deal with, 3 stories that just got left hanging. Sigh. I like books with closure. What if she never gets around to writing the next one? At least her last book had a good amount of closure to it.

Looking forward to hearing what you ladies have to say. :-)

p.s. can you tell I just finished the book and needed to rant?

I didn't look any farther into the thread - cause it's currently sitting on my dresser, and I haven't started reading it yet - still trying to decide if I want to go back and re-read the rest first.
