Hair loss

Has anyone experienced significant hair loss after baby? I have thick hair and a lot of it so I've always naturally had some hair loss, but lately it's been really bad. It's especially bad when I'm combing my hair after I take a shower and large clumps come out while I'm washing my hair.

DH and I are sick of finding my hair all over the house and I've resorted to wearing my hair up at all times in the house just to minimize the amount that falls to the floor.

I'm pretty good to my hair - I don't color it, I always air dry it, I don't use a flat iron and I rarely use any styling products so I'm guessing this is all hormones.

I'm still BFing and AF has not returned yet.

Is there anything I can do? Should I talk to a doctor about it? Which one - my MW or my regular doc?

Thanks!

Oh yeah. It was so bad I was literally losing clumps of it and clogging the shower after one use every time. Rob seriously worried I was going bald. For me I think it got much better after a year but still I shed a TON. Thanks pregnancy!

I too have never dyed my hair or used products in it and I also air dry it. Pony tails are also my friend! If anyone has a cure let me know!

mine was bad for about 6 months after having david. i read somewhere you don't lose any during pregnancy so afterwards you have to make up. but it finally let up after about 6 months.

Yes it was really awful for me too. I was told to live with it and it would eventually go away but it can take up to 18 months postpartum,....screw that, it was driving me nuts pulling hair out everywhere...so I asked another hair salon and they recommended this. I use the shampoo and conditioner only and I used it for a few months. It started working after about 30 days which she said was the norm. Now I'm just dealing with wonky regrowth near my hair line but its not falling out anymore and it looks much better, not nearly as thin. Try it, I was really skeptical but it worked well for me. I have fine but curly hair.

Thanks Ruby. I've heard good things about the Murad brand. Where did you buy the products? Online, or at a beauty supply store?

My hair is not thinning, it's just falling out everywhere. I have a ton of hair so I hopefully won't have to worry about it thinning out. I also haven't had a hair cut since January and will be getting one soon so hopefully the shorter length will help as well.

I got it at a salon here in Ontario...not sure if its a commonly carried product in salons down there.

It's happened to me too! it is a little better now than let's say, 2 or 3 months postpartum (when it looked like I was going bald)- But I still loose some. I wear my hair up all the time too!!

I have always been a shedder, which was nice when I was PG with Gabby because it didn't fall out. I grew my hair out and it was wonderful. Then after she was born I thought I had missed the shedding until 3 months and then it fell out with avengence. I had three bald spots, mostly on my hair line. but they are just now starting to grow back- man does it look strange let me tell you. I heard the shampoo niacin works really well. Maybe check with your regular doc though, because it seems strange that it's still happening.

I brought it up at my LLL meeting the other night and they said it's very common, especially since Selin is not nursing as much as when she was younger. They said it will get better with time. I'm grateful I'm not getting bald spots. That's gotta be rough, Jess!

Glad you got it figured out :) my bald spots weren't too bad :) nothing anyone but me really could notice until I pointed it out. It's almost worse that it's growing back because I have these little hairs that are sticking out. Its sort of funny :)
