I'm the same way--I get so fed up with my hair and end up chopping it. I say, if you're not ready to commit to a cut, go with some highlights so you feel like you're getting a bit of a change. Your hair looks cute with the blonde! Then if down the road that's just not doing it for you, at least you'll know you're ready for a cut!
Erica, first, I want to say that both hairstyles look good on you.
BUt, as a person who (recently) got her hair "chopped off".... Don't cut it!!!!! LOL!
I think your hair will look great with some highlights and a couple of layers, but still keeping the length. besides, with humid weather it's better to keep it long(ish), so you can tie it in a ponytail when you need to be comfortable, but still have the sexier option of long hair when you want to look good.
I'm in the same boat! I've had my hair short, long, and everything in-between. I think the shorter style looks cute on you, or a longer style with some layers to break it up a bit. I think you could pull off a darker color, too!
I have thick wavy hair so I'm kind of limited on styles. Hormones have me sweating all the time so my now shoulder length hair is always up in a bun or clip, even for bed! I'm coming up on 3 months since my last cut and trying to figure out what to do. Oh and thanks to heredity, I have premature grey hairs so I'm in dire need of highlights, too. :-/
Erica - I was having the same issue with my hair after having Evan. It was just blah and I had no idea what to do. I ended up getting bangs, but still wasn't totally satisfied with the look. Then I went to a real hair stylist. She gave me a free consultation and we talked about what I need my hair to be able to, what my days are like, what kind of styles I loved on other people, etc.. At the end of that, we narrowed it down to two options (short and sassy, long with layers). I went home, thought about it for a week, polled my friends and family on my blog (at the stylist's recommendation). I decided I wanted a big change, so I went back to her and got my hair cut short(ish). I absolutely LOVE it, and she did an amazing job.
She knew what my hair could do, and the cut was fairly difficult but she made it work for my lifestyle. I can easily style it three different ways, which I never thought possible. I've been to cheaper hair places, and honestly, you can definitely tell a difference. I would try and try to convey what I wanted, even with pictures, and they could just NOT do it.
Anyway, it was a great experience, and I would recommend it to anyone. I fully intend to keep going back to her because one awesome haircut is worth more than 1000 crappy ones! LOL!
I don't think I would have ever found her if I hadn't hired a personal stylist to help me with my wardrobe (I wrote about this on my blog). She gave me the name of this hair stylist!
Wow! Thanks for all of the great input, ladies. And yes, Alyssa, your experience sounds fantastic. I don't think I have ever had a hair style that I truly loved.

HTH!
It seems like you have fine hair, so I think that lots of layers would work well for you in the heat.
