We had decided we were going to go to Maine for our honeymoon. DH had never been and it had been like 15 years since I went last. Plus it was close enough to home so, heaven forbid, there was an emergency w/ DS and we had to get home right away (thankfully there wasn't).

We decided we were going to "wing it", just pack and go. And I am so glad we did.

We had a general plan of driving up north on the highway (no maps) and then heading home on US Route 1.

We spent 2 nights in Bath, ME. A very quiet little town. We took walks on the water, went out for awesome meals, did the tourist thing and went to LL Bean in Freeport and spent a lot of time relaxing in our room. We stayed at a really nice Holiday Inn and had a mini-suite with a balcony. On the way we picked up this discount hotel room flyer and used it every we stayed (saved like 50%). We also drove out to the local islands and saw them catch lobsters, etc.

After that we went to Kennebec, ME and stayed at this little resort w/ indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. Again we had a little balcony... which we sat outside on and had drinks and played cards. We spent sometime in Kennebunkport and went to this restaurant that the 1st President Bush really liked... lots of pics and autographs of him on the wall. We visited the shops and went to the beach.

The only bad part of the trip happened here. While driving into town I got bit by a spider, and my arm swelled up and it was really painful and itchy (I am actually still marked from it and it's starting to bruise).

Lastly we stayed in Wells, ME for a few nights (this hotel kind of sucked, but the room was fairly decent; again a mini-suite). We went along the seashore and picked shells (this was really the only hot day). We also went outlet shopping in Kittery ME. We mostly got cash as wedding gifts so we got a lot of stuff for the house (at great prices).
We drove home after that.

It was a great time. We really had a chance to focus on US. Which really seemed to be missing in all the craziness of wedding planning. We got home very relaxed and ready to start our lives together as husband and wife.

Kate - Your trip sounds wonderful! I will have to look at the pictures when I get home, they don't allow facebook at work, but I can't wait to see them.

Bummer about the spider, did you just have to take some benedryl to get it to go down? Glad though that was the only bad thing. It sounds like you guys had an awesome time!

So excited for you guys to be married, how did the wedding go?

Thanks ladies.

I had to take a lot of Benadryl to get the spider bite down, as well as some spray on Benadryl and Tylenol for the pain. I am still bruised where I got it, and now it's starting to peel.

Speaking of which, while driving to work this morning a spider fell on my other arm. I'm starting to wonder about all these spiders in the car.
