How many children would you like to have?

I was curious if you have decided how many children you would like to have, and if your SO is in agreement or not.  We have four boys, and while got some negative feedback about it, I just knew in my heart that I wasn't done until my youngest was born.  Can anyone relate to that feeling?

DH and I have been together 12 years and married 3 1/2. We just had our first child, a boy in December. I'm 28 (29 in July) and DH is 31. Ideally, I'd like an age gap of 3 years, but since we're older, it'll probably be 2 years (meaning that we'll have another one by the end of next year when I'm 30). If our next is a boy, then we'll be done. If it's a girl, it'll leave it more open for a third depending on how it goes with two (and being two years apart).

I've always pictured myself having 3-4 kids but lately I've been thinking about how much we travel out of the country to visit family and that it might not be feasible for us to have that many. Also being a FT working mom is exhausting and I definitely wouldn't want to be working FT if we do have a 3rd.

With #2 on the way, it's hard to say for sure if we will be done after two kids but I'd like to keep an open mind about #3. I know for DH we'd have to be in a bigger house and have more income for him to think about adding a third child to the mix.

Hey, Melissa. Great question. I definitely relate to what you are saying. I do not feel that our family is complete. I'm thinking between 4 and 6. My ideal (for the moment) would be 4 biological children and two adopted children. But we can only fit two more in our current vehicle. Only one more if we still plan to travel with our dog. :) Ahh...the practical things to consider. ;) If it weren't for all the financial questions and space issues in the house, I would adopt lots of kiddos. (I tried to reply to this thread several days ago, but my reply disappeared. Sorry to leave you hanging.)

Well, yes, I can relate.

Everybody asumes that since we have two kids, a boy and a girl, then we are "done". I feel I want a third, and so does DH, but most of the times we say it to people we get curious (and some judgemental) looks.

Now we are WTT, simply because I want to give my body a break from pregnancy and breastfeeding before I start the journey all over again.
