I'm Home!
Mon, 11-29-2010 - 12:10am

Well I am home after our long trip to Canada. But we made it and it was a really really good trip!

Short version:

7:00pm - Packed up the truck headed to IL's
11:00pm - IL's finally home from game, packed up the rest of the stuff, on the road with a light freezing rain by 11:15pm Wednesday

2:30am - Stopped and fed the babe, she slept the entire way until then.
5:30am - Stopped and fed her again, she did great, slept for an hour (we were a bit ahead of schedule)
7:30am - Reached the border of Canada, stopped for a nasty breakfast at the "restaruant" at the gas station (mainly just heating up our food and eating it there)
10:00 - Reached WInnipeg and had to stop 10 minutes before our final stop to feed and change the babe. Reached our destination shortly after
Hung out at my MIL's cousins house and relaxed. Later went to her Aunts house to surprise her. She didn't know we were coming up (she still didn't know we were there for her 85th birthday party on saturday).
Peanut pie slept really well and only got up twice. She didn't sleep in her crib but in her bouncer, it worked out.

11:00am & 3:00pm- Went to another relatives house
5:00pm - went to dinner out at a very nice restuarant - had to breast feed the babe (first time for us at a rest.) she did great!
8:30pm - went back to where we were staying and had a good time with the rest of the relatives that were at the house.

I stayed home while DH and his parents went out and did some shopping, she needed her naps. She slept well in her crib the night before but it was hard getting her down.
4:00pm - went to the surprise party. It was a good time, she went through like 5 diapers in a 4 hour period. It was super loud in the place, so we spent a bit of time outside where it was cooler and quieter. She finally went down for a nap around 7:00 and we left there around 8:30. I did get her down and while she woke up a bunch she slept in her crib the entire night.

10:20 - we actually left around 10 which is what I wanted to. I tripped coming up the stairs with her and some other things (Scuffed my knee and my elbow) but saved her so that's good. She cried from the shock but we are all okay. We made the trip back in 9 hours, she did really well except for the last 10 minutes when her diaper was wet and she cried a bit on our way home from the IL's but went to sleep about 10 minutes into the trip.

It was a good trip but I am glad that we are back.

Overall a lot of my fears were just that fears and nothing horrible happened. DH and I got up to the IL"s and thought that maybe they wouldn't stay for the entire game (God Forbid they leave early from the stupid basketball games)...but oh no, not only did the stay for the entire game, but they stayed for the OT. they didn't get to the house until 10:45 and we didn't get out of there until 1/2 hour later. I was a little mad, but it ended up being okay.

The trip up there was fine, she did really well. I didn't get much sleep (only like 3 hours) so we were pretty tired when we got up to George & Karen's (where we were staying). Peanut did great sleeping. The first night she wouldn't sleep in her PNP but the last 2 nights she did, so we are trying her in her crib tonight. She did well going from place to place and being passed around (which actually wasn't too much). I ended up only pumping once and that was Friday morning because I was just so full. So we EBF all weekend all and it was great. I whipped it out at the restaurant, at his parents cousin's places, at the birthday party....and didn't feel weird about it at all. It was amazing! I have to say I felt empowered especially at the restaruant.

I did run into a few weird comments - his mom's Aunt wanted to know when I was going to switch her to formula....She didn't ask me but I heard her when I was in the other room (Peanut was getting distracted eating so I went into the other room to feed her). I didn't hear what DH said...or if she was asking my MIL. And a lot of people thought that I was feeding her formula, until they found out that I was nursing. I did have a great encounter with one of his mom's cousin's grandchildren. He was 10 and I was outside (Again getting away from the distraction because they are so loud) and he came up to me to say good bye and rubbed Gabby's head and said goodbye and then apologized for interrupting my nursing - he is the oldest of 4 and wants more little brothers and sisters.

It was a great trip, I was getting a little sick of the IL's by the end of the trip but other than that we did really well and we are talking about going up there next summer or the summer after. our DC trip is cancelled (None of the family can go out and DH doesn't want just the three of us to go)....longer time at the Time Share then.

THanks for all the comments, hugs and support before I left, I appreciate it.

Sounds like things went pretty well! I honestly think babies travel the easiest when they are around Gabby's age. I'm dreading flying by myself with Selin in Jan. She's already so mobile so I can't imagine what she's going to be like in another two months. :-/

Thanks ladies, I was really glad the trip went well also.

Ella - The drive is LONG! especially with my IL's with DH it's not that bad, but with my IL's it was and always is, but I LOVE the family up there so much. We are already talking a trip next summer or the summer after. Most likely it will be the summer of 2012. We arent going to DC now because none of the IL's can go, but that's fine with me :smileyhappy:
