I'm hosting a jewelry party for my cousin (she's an advisor for Lia Sophia) in a few weeks and have been going back and forth on whom to invite from my grad school co-hort.

Since I am not student teaching this semester with everyone (post-poning till next fall), there are only a

I'm not always the best with the etiquette, but I'm guessing it's like a pampered chef party (demonstrations and possible sales).

I would only invite the people you think would actually be interested in buying jewelry. I know lots of people have these types of parties, but to be honest, I feel really uncomfortable going to them. It is awkward to be invited to someone's house and then expected to buy something and that person benefits from it. I know the hosts always say they don't want to pressure people, but just the whole situation feels awkward as there is always a sell point at the end.

This doesn't sound so much like an etiquette issue as a planning one. Do you feel like you want a larger pool of invitees? Or have you got enough to fill it out the way you'd like with the smaller group? I think you could go either way & it would be perfectly acceptible.

Thanks ladies - good points all around!

I think I'll keep my invite list to the people I really want to be there and who I think would be interested. I don't like doing these parties either, but I'm just trying to help my cousin out (we're close and she's trying to do this as a job to help make some money for her family). I've actually been to a few Lia Sophia parties before and they're fun so I don't mind hosting one for her.

And my house is small so just my luck,
