Last night I had my first prenatal aquafit class of the Fall. The woman who runs it does a 30 minute discussion session before we get into the pool.
This time she talked about strengthening the pelvic floor and said there have been recent studies that claim kegel exercises are the wrong thing to be doing.
She said doing kegels tends to strengthen and contract those muscles, when what we want to do is strengthen and lengthen the muscles. She showed us a few exercises that will help with this.
She didn't give us references to the studies, but I might email her and ask for more information.
Anyway, just wanted to share! Has anyone else heard this?
