Any thoughts on giving birth in a koi pond, and hoping that the fish will help your baby to the surface?

Uhhh...I don't mind a water birth and my poop maybe being in the water. But I don't care what type of chemicals they use; I don't want my baby born in fish poo.

And fish have tiny brains. I don't imagine they'll really get that they're supposed to assist the baby in getting to the surface. The idea of her husband scooping the baby out with a fish net creeps me out.

All this to say, I don't swim in water with fish because I have irrational fears of them nibbling at me. Being naked and having a baby surrounded by them sounds like a bad dream to me!

I'm sorry, but I think she is totally nuts and/or calling for attention... One way or the other (chemicals or parasites), there is no way this can be healthy!! I mean... you know... we are not fish! I can see the point of giving birth in a clean birth tub.. I can even imagine that giving birth in the sea, although not ideal, could turn out allright (the ginormous amount of water and salt kind of "dilutes" the germs). But giving birth on a fish tank is taking it a bit too far IMHO. By the way, for those moms who did research on water births... how does the whole "mommy pooping in the water" work out?

Yeah, that story's just weird, on so many levels!

Mari - We were originally planning a water birth a home with Selin and I believe my MW had something handy to 'scoop the poop' (for lack of a better term) discretely. Maybe Adrienne can enlighten us? :-)

I know, a fishnet... But your poop already dived into the water where your baby will be born and I can't help thinking about the germs that could go upward into your uterus. Not to mention the possibility that instead of "solid poop" it could be diarrhea... I dare you to scoop that with a fish net!! (sorry for the ick factor, but there is no way to beautify such a subject!)

Ummmm, I think this website is a joke... I thought it was meant to be a humorous commentary on birth choices in the US...? Maybe it's just me!?

Oh wait, I didn't mean that we have weird/crazy birth choices... that came out wrong. Just that everyone should have the birth they want and society/doctors shouldn't judge or control us...?

Okay maybe I'm reading into it...

It seems like satire to me :)
