Cassie, that is so awful for your friend. I agree with Emmy, though, she should definitely talk to an RE first. I hope that they are able to preserve the right one so that she's able to have biological children. I'll be thinking of you and her and hoping for the best--definitely keep us posted.

Oh Cassie, I'm so sorry for her... I truly hope it is benign and she recovers from it. I do have a story that may help... There is this woman I know (mom to one of my friends in High school), who went through a similar situation. She lost one ovary and most of the other. The Drs wanted to remove both, it was too risky, and she had 3 biological children already. But she refused because she absolutely wanted to have a fourth baby. So they left a third of one ovary, and after some months trying... she got pregnant... at 42yo!!!!! She gave birth to a beautiful and healthy boy. So there is nothing impossible. Tell her to get a second opinion, or at least consult with an infertility specialist to know her chances of conception after the surgery. And, (I know this is not an option for everybody, and definitely not the time to bring it up to her) there is always adoption. I mean, she can still get to be a mother one way or another.
