I just got a call from my best friend...She was with me on Saturday at the Breast Cancer Fundraiser and Saturday night when she went home she did a self breast exam and found a lump. She just called me and they are having her come in for an Ultrasound and possibly a mammogram tomorrow morning, because the doc found one and possibly two lumps....

They think it's a cyst but need to check it out, so if you can keep her in your thoughts for me I would appreciate it.

Jessica, I'll definately keep her in my thoughts.

I wanted to pass on my scare with this, just to give you a little hope.

Thanks Leona - My mom has had to go back a few times from her mammograms, but never found a lump...

I think I am just being more paranoid, because we were just at a Breast Cancer fundraiser and the speaker - who is the co-chair of the event did the same thing last year, she found a lump after the fundraiser and has now had a double mastectomy, chemo and all that.

I am just praying with all that I have, that it's nothing.

Jess--I hope that the lumps are benign and not a problem--I'll definitely be thinking of your friend. How lucky that she did the breast self-exam!

Just wanted to say. I found alump in my breast some 4 years ago, and my Dr. at the time reassured me that at my age it was almost surely a fibroadenoma. They did a breast ultrasound that confirmed the diagnosis. I was given the option of removing it right away or leave it there with periodical exams. I chose the second. 2.5 years later I had surgery to get it out, but only because I was about to TTC and wanted to be as healthy as possible.
So try not to worry, I'm sure it's something benign!

As scary as it is, I think you'll find a lot more women with experience with lumps than you expect. That's not to say that you don't get it checked out, just that it isn't as much cause for fear as you might think. I've even got two stories!

One) about 5 years ago I discovered that I had fluid occasionally leaking from my breasts - let me tell you, I was pretty freaked out! I went to the doctor, had a bunch of hormone tests, and a mammogram, the whole bit (I was 25). Turned out that I'm just one of those women who produces colostrum even though I wasn't and had never been pregnant.

Two) Last year at my annual exam, my doctor found a lump. I do have a family history of breast cancer (but not at a young age) so it bothered me some. She suggested that I just keep examining it for the next month to make sure that it was changing with my cycle, and when I went back the next month - no lump. I will admit I spent the whole month franticly feeling myself up, and trying to figure out if each day was different than the day before ;)

Jessica,

I will keep your friend in my prayers. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and I'm ashamed to say I don't do self exams as regularly as I should. Now that I have a daughter, I should take better care of myself. I'm glad your friend is more diligent and I pray that it will turn out to be nothing.

Thanks Everyone for the prayers. I saw her tonight, she didn't talk about it much I think she just really nervous and scared as I would be....I am sure it's nothing, just worried about her.

Christine- I love the new siggie and what a cutie pie! Hope she is doing well.

Hey ladies, thanks for all the prayers. She went in for the U/S yesterday and while there is a lump the doc couldn't really see anything that caused them alarm. She has an appt with the surgeon to see if they should do a biopsy. I am so happy!
