This came up on my EC board, and I wanted to get your input on how you handle this.

I'm not particularly concerned about these things. I just make sure that the things I post on FB and other places are things that I would be okay with my family, friends, boss, whoever else seeing. I try not to use my full name (or that of my husband and upcoming child) or state a specific location --- especially in the same place.

I would think that family and friends would just assume that, if you're sending pictures via email, you do not want the pictures on the web. It would never even cross my mind to post something that someone sent me via email. But, if you're concerned that it might happen, I would suggest just adding a little disclaimer at the end of your emails. Something like "Please don't post these pictures to Facebook or any other internet site." I don't think it's rude, especially if it's really important to you.

Good luck!

I totally agree with you. I started a pregnancy/baby blog on blogspot that I will share with family and close friends. It is invite only, so you can only view it if you have an invitation from me. I am also not putting our last name on there for added security, even though we have a fairly common last name. I'll also ask people not to download or redistribute any pictures I put up.

I do use a pseudonym here and on my IF blog, mostly so someone I know IRL doesn't figure me out.

I don't worry about it, but I don't think there would be anything wrong with adding a little disclaimer to emails and such where you clearly state that you would prefer that people not pass these pictures on anywhere on the web including FB.
A person would have to be very, very rude or strange
to A) Take issue with that or B) Not follow it.

I water mark all my photos on my blog, and I tell people I do not want pictures of my son on their FB. My sister has some on hers but they are all pictures of all of us, so I am not worried. I also block anyone I don't know and trust from viewing my photos on facebook. And I never put my last name out online, and in fact my last name on facebook is my husband's last name, but legally it's not my last name lol. I never changed it when we got married.

I also don't really have an issue with this. I have never had anything stolen from me, so I'm pretty blase about everything in terms of security. I guess I'm unsure how having pics/names of your kids online could cause any harm to them, but I'm sure it has happened--but not something I would ever worry about.

On the other hand, I think it is really cool that FB and the internet in general is a PERMANENT place for our pictures, activities, etc. If my house was ever to burn down and I lost everything physical, it would be a huge relief to me that there was some record of my kids pictures and childhoods on the internet. But that's just me. ;-)

I feel the same as Adrienne. I also have an online photo gallery for family and friends to see and it isn't private. I don't have an issue. I also post all pics of David on facebook as most of my husband's family is on there and that way since they are out of town they can see him. We also post videos of him on youtube which I don't have a problem with either.

I guess I'm with the others on this. I post pictures of Selin on my FB page simply so far-flung family and friends can see her so I don't have to send pictures to each person individually, but I never post pictures of my family members' kids
