Today I find out my job is being eliminated. The company is going through a lot of changes ( the CEO just resigned). Two other people in my department were also impacted and three were impacted about a month ago.

So, now I have to figure out what to do. Both DH and I are going to be looking for new jobs. I'm just hoping an employer will want to hire a 12 week pregnant woman. If I could just stay at home I would be right now it's not an option. I would plan on working after the baby. I know God doesn't give you what you can't handle and we'll get through this. I guess this proves no matter how much planning you do, you can't be prepared what will be thrown at you. I'm glad I have my church retreat sisters and I went on this retreat last year as it's made my faith a long stronger and it will be a lot easier to get me through this.

I do get a 10 week severance pacakge and since I've been working in insurance I'm hoping I can either go back to a dental office ( was a dental assistant before) granted I let my licenses expire and I really don't want to do assisting any further, or I could probably do medical front desk as well.  I have been at my job since April 2008.

I sense from your post that what I wrote disturbed you... Sandy, I didn' mean that you were doing your job poorly or anything like that! Also I just learned the difference between "laid off" and "fired", I thought it was the same... (I guess at times like this it shows that this is not my first language.)

Anyways, even if your case is one among a thousand, it's still a shame, and I'm sorry your boss couldn't help you in this.

That is heartbreaking, Sandy. My in-laws both work for the same steel mill, and they are watching their co-workers be laid off one by one. So far, mom and dad are still in the clear, but they never really know. It is totally out of their control and the control of their supervisors. All of these decisions come from the Corporate office that oversees dozens of mills. In one way, it is maddening because the people making the decisions don't even know the people being cut. On the other hand, it is a relief to know that performance or personal preference is out of the equation.

I wasn't fired. I was laid off. If I was fired I wouldn't get compensation or be elgible for rehire which I am.  I get pay until the end of the year. Also my pregnancy is still a huge secret at work. Only 3 people knew up until last week. I still hadn't even told my boss yet which I did tell her when she called me to tell me my job had been eliminated. Since I work at home it was a lot easier to keep it secret unlike if I had worked in the office. I think a lot of them in my department still don't know. The last time I went in I wasn't really showing yet and I wasn't telling anyone as I hadn't had my second appointment yet. If I do end up going in before I leave I will probably tell people.

From what I have heard across the company over 1,000 people will have their jobs eliminated before the end of the year. So it's a company wide thing and was notthing I did or didn't do. My performance was excellent at 100% at my last review. So for your job being eliminated you cannot really sue. Now if I was fired because I was pregnant and no one else was that would have been a different story. Then I would have had a case. But 2 others in my department were impacted this time and 3 are already gone as of the end of August. Also there may be more impacted in my department as well.  I was told a big reason was a lot of the jobs for the company were being taken overseas and being outsourced so that was a big reason so many are being let go. It's unfortunate but a realistic part of working for a large company.

Even if my boss did know I was pregnant,  it was not her decision. She said it wasn't even her boss' decision. She said it was a lot higher up than that and I don't think someone that high up would even know if an employee was pregnant or not considering the company employs around 15,000 people.  Not sure how it's done but it's out of her control. My boss was pretty upset as she said I was one of the highest performing employees and she hates to lose me.

I still can't believe they would fire you being pregnant!!! It's at least deeply unconsiderate to put a pregnant woman through the stress of loosing her job!

If you were in Argentina you could sue them for that and win almost automatically! Lot's of ((hugs)) honey!! I hope things look better soon!

Sandy, I am so sorry about this! I can only hope that your DH's job stays strong, and that you can find somehting soon.

I'm glad we are talking baout God's plan in the other thread, because now I think I can honestly say that perhaps there is a reason behind all this and that things will work out!

((hugs!))

Sandy, I'm so sorry! I hope you can find something quickly - even if it's just a "tide us over"...
