SHOVE IT!!! is what I'd like to say to my boss but not until I find another one.
Just curious if any of you decided not to return to work after being on mat. leave and how you told your boss and how much notice did you give?
I'm due back at work on Aug 2nd and I have been furiously looking for a new job. I have a good chance at a job at my local hospital but they're not planning to start interviews until next week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
DH thinks I should give as little notice as possible since my boss has been so unwilling to work out a modified schedule once I return but I also don't want to burn any bridges as I always try to keep a good relationship with my previous employers. I also still have some "stuff" I'll need to collect from my desk should I not return - picture frames, etc.

Does your contract say anything about a minimum amount of time to give notice? Usually it's 2 weeks, but it might be different.
I wouldn't go any shorter than the minimum. That way, you won't be seen as being "difficult", so not burning any bridges. I know what you mean though - some times you just want to tell an employer off! Unfortunately, we depend on them for future references, etc.
Good luck with the job search!

My 2-cents: Definitely give 2 weeks notice, it's the minimum of acceptable notice.
Also, I don't remember whether this is paid leave or not for you. If you are getting paid (even if it's not 100% of your pay) you need to check your company's policy carefully. If you don't return to work, you may have to return your mat. leave pay. You may *have* to go back for at least a few weeks so that you don't have to forfeit your mat. leave pay.
Just something to check into if it applies to your situation!
I wouldn't see why you would have to give notice if you're on leave. I think clearing everything up with HR would be a good idea though.
Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks Alyssa and Ella! I really really hope I get it too! Even DH said tonight that he hopes I get the job because it is so close to home (5 minutes) and he knows how much happier I would be to not have to work FT.
I'll KUP! Crossing all crossables. :-)
