Taking care of yourself

People always say "take care of yourself." And "you have to take care of YOU." I get frustrated by this. It's hard! So many things and so many people depend on MOM.
I make sure I eat, and take care of my basic physical needs like brushing my teeth and showering. I make time for reading a few evenings a week. Does that mean that I'm taking care of myself? Sometimes I think 'yes.' During this season of life, we play a very important role in our family life. We are going to have to be second (third, fourth, etc.) for a short while. These years fly. But then I realize that I haven't actually styled my hair in about four years. It just sort of hangs there. Living in Florida, I try to take time to paint my toes, but the same paint stays there for weeks and weeks looking terrible. I can keep the rest of the house looking okay, but my own master bedroom is like a dark pit where everything goes to die. I rarely even turn the light on in there. I dive into bed at night and run out in the morning so that I don't have to look at the mess.
How are the rest of you doing with "self-care?" Any tips?
