What's the worst present you've received on the holidays?

Oh, Ruby, your prank gift story made my heart hurt! How awful and embarrassing.

My DH, who is usually an awesome gift giver, gave me an electric toothbrush for Valentines Day one year. I just laughed! He knew it was something I wanted and wouldn't buy for myself. Not exactly romantic! (I feel like I shared this story before on this board, so sorry if I am repeating myself.)

That is just awful! I've never done well with prank gifts like that either, and refuse to put my kids through that. My brothers gave me a plastic Mr. T head bank when I was little one year, after totaling building up hype around it. I was so upset :(

I dont do well with prank gifts and here is why...

When I was about 13, I asked for a sapphire or amethyst ring...just a small ring but I really wanted jewelry from my parents. So when I got a small square box I was pretty pumped. I opened it (in front of my entire family, 15 people at the time) and was immediately "oooh pretty." And then they started laughing....my mom glued one of my brother's purple rocks to a paperclip and shaped it into a ring. I thought it was my real gift...I was so embarrassed I started crying. Then my aunt (who is 8 years old than me) started crying too. Needless to say my parents felt horrible for me and tossed me my real sapphire ring right away. They have never pulled a gag on me since.

But god I hate being embarassed that way...so joke gifts unless I'm prepared for it (like from an expected source), dont go over well for me.

I think a stocking full of kitchen gadgets sounds awesome!

I'm just hoping this year DH actually gets me something to unwrap for Christmas. Two years ago, I got a print-out because my gift was back-ordered. Last year, He told me what he planned to get me, but decided it was too expensive. He finally ordered it (a Wii) in March...after I asked for it.

I do believe I have 2 Ove Gloves ;) Both of them came from my in-laws, but they were stocking stuffers. We try to get creative with those, some of my coolest kitchen utensils were recevied in my stocking. We have a lot of fun with that each year!

These are hilarious!!

Melissa - My step dad once got my mom a Chia Per for Christmas many years ago. She was NOT pleased! Now he consults me every year on what to buy her. Lol

The only gift I can think of is from my fav aunt. She ha my name in the grab bag and bought me a pair of Ove Gloves! At the time I was thinking WTF? and even she said trust me, you're going to love them and you know what, she was right! They're the best oven gloves I've ever owned! So a bad gift actually turned out to be not do bad, but it still was weird to receive them as a Christmas gift. ;-)
