Wax on, wax off

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Brazilian or bikini wax but am scared of the privacy factor and the pain. I just got an email for a super deal from a local salon (through one of those daily deal sites where the deals are like 50% off) but I have to purchase it by tomorrow.

Does anyone wax regularly, at a salon or at home? Is it worth it? Convince me! ;-)

I have never done it. However i had abfriend who did all the time. We gave her a bad time because she got it done right before her wedding and she was more nervouse to walk down the aisle then to have a stranger rip her hair from down there. Good luck deciding.

I've gotten it done a few times (both at a salon and at home) and, for me, it wasn't worth the pain! I also end up getting all these red bumps --- not razor burn, but almost like bruising --- and that's not attractive either! Now I just use Nair on the area if needed.

I agree with Alyssa, that the pain wasn't worth it. They do let you keep your panties on though, so it's not as "revealing" as your annual gyno appointment ;)

I've had people swear by them, but you need to make sure the place is reputable. I know a lady that went and got her eyebrows waxed and ended up with a bad infection she had to be hospitalized for! So you don't want that. So google the place and read reviews before you decide. I've been tempted before but eh.. I'm too lazy to even get my hair trimmed so doubt I'd keep up with that! LOL

I'm too chicken. And for what it's worth... something about advertising for 50% off a wax down there is a little creepy to me.

I used to wax at home all the time. I loved it! I couldn't do the full brazilian by myself but would do most of the top part. It's not too bad, IMO. I won't get my eyebrows waxed but I will wax down there, I know it doesn't make sense! lol. Like pp have said, I would try to read reviews or talk to someone that's been there just to make yourself feel better about it.
If you ever decide to do at-home waxing, I totally would recommend buying a wax warmer and a pot of wax from a beauty supply store rather than trying to do the whole microwave thing. When I tried the microwave ones the wax would either get too hot or cool off too fast to really work well.

Ha, I guess I'm in the minority here - I LOVE bikini waxes and I get them regularly during the summer months! I don't do the brazilian, though, just a traditional bikini. Part of why I like it/do it is that I found a woman who I am really comfortable with and trust - so that's really important. She's super sweet and is very used to her job, so seeing everything is no big deal to her, and therefore it isn't to me, either. We just chat and laugh and 20 minutes later, it's done.

To me, it doesn't hurt that badly - in fact I think it hurts way less than shaving because of how much it hurts when the hair grows back when you shave (at least for me!). I never shave now, and in fact I had to a couple months ago for some last-minute swimming, and I was regretting it for weeks and wished I had made a last minute appointment to get a wax.

This is an area where I have some expertise! LOL!! I did the waxing for years and now I shave...
First let me tell you that in Argentina most women wax. Shaving is for the less hairy ladies or for emergency situations. (there is a whole superstition about getting thicker hair when shaving). For years I waxed my whole legs, pits and bikini line. It doesn't hurt, really... the feeling of the hot wax on your skin is really soothing, and it opens your pores, so the hair pulling doesn't hurt so much.

I like the look/feel of Brazilians, but don't get them that often. I find that the first time I do it in a long time hurts like hell, but it's a quick hurt. Definitely take ibuprophen beforehand (and if you have anything stronger - percocet, vodka - go for it). I'm super-comfortable with the woman who does mine, but I find it far more revealing that a gyn exam, where they usually do that part in about 30 seconds and are done.

So, anyway, I think it's fun and the downsides are worth it to me. If you just want to try it out, go for a regular bikini wax. It's not that bad and then you can decide for yourself how you feel about the whole idea.

It hurts, for sure, so I only think it's worth it if I'll be in a bathing suit several days in a row. So I mostly spurge right before a beach vacation.
