i've been watching every day so far (two whole days, OMG!! lol). we watched the opening ceremonies on friday as well...spectacular, even with the little glitch at the end!

right now nordic combined long jump is on...it's pretty cool to watch, but personally my favorite nordic skiing event is the biathalon (or the "norwegian drive-by" as we like to call it, lol).

so what is your favorite event? what are you most looking forward to watching? any favorite athletes or people/events you're hoping for a gold for your country? (i realize most of us are from the US or canada, but there are a few ladies from other places too.)

i personally am awaiting the beginning of figure skating tonight, although i very much enjoy watching most of the events. especially hockey, lol. we had fun watching the x games a couple weeks ago too, so i enjoy a lot of the skiing and snowboarding events.

I love the Biathlon!!! My fav athlete Magdalena Neuer got silver in teh 7.5km Norwegian drive by sprint. (love that nick name for it)

Ski jumping was on a lot. Ohhh right now ice skating!!!

Ooooh you totally should! It wouldn't be over the top - it's crazy how many people here are decked out in red, wearing Team Canada gear, draped in flags, wearing Maple leaf tattoos.... it's awesome! I love it! I'm not sure if it's just here in Vancouver, maybe it's going on all over Canada, but even so it's pretty cool. :)

Jen, are you from the Lower Mainland? Or somewhere in BC? I live in Burnaby. :) I noticed that the Fin-Blr game wasn't sold out yet a few days ago, but I didn't bother trying to get tickets because I wanted to at least be able to cheer for Canada! LOL. But I guess it would still be cool to go to any Olympic event. DH is going to the Czech vs Slovak game on Wednesday with his brother. I was slightly annoyed because I was excited about the Olympics all along and he hasn't been. Oh well!

We weren't going to go because of all the traffic and people, but then we figured it's really a once in a lifetime opportunity, so we're going to go down for the men's Finland vs Belarus hockey game.

I wasn't excited bc I was grumpy about the traffic delays and military state my city has become ;-)

But DH & DS watched the whole opening ceremonies and I got sucked in! I've never watched this much Olympics in my life. We have tickets to the closing ceremony but I wasn't going to go - maybe now I'll reconsider.

We are going to Russia vs USA women's hockey tomm. I'm a bit nervous about bussing it home during rush hour with a toddler tho.

Then it's Sweden vs Finland (lots of Canucks to watch there!) and then men's quarterfinal in hockey.

So I guess hockey is our fave event. I tried to get figure skating tickets but EVERYTHING was sold out. I thought it would be great to take my mother as she is the big fan there. DS and I watched the short program last night and he really likes figure skating. He'll watch it at the arena while we wait for DH's hockey games to start.

"Oh and a huge WOO HOO for Canada's first gold medal won on Canadian soil today by Alexandre Bilodeux in Men's Moguls!"

i'm not even canadian and that was pretty thrilling to watch, lol. it made me smile that the gold on home soil drought finally got broken for you guys! plus the US men wiped out so badly, lol, and the US ladies did so well on that event, i think it was a good outcome. if the US doesn't have a chance, i'll gladly root for canada! ;)

except in hockey. i'm torn there. i'm very loyal to detroit, so i'm not sure if i want to root for team canada because of coach babcock and GM stevie Y (not a huge fan of either neidermayer or crosby though) or team sweden for four of my favorite detroit players, lol. i don't hold out a lot of hope for the US team there. although, anyone of those three could win and i'd be a happy camper. wouldn't it be great if all three made it to the podium? lol.

I have been watching bits and pieces of the olympics. I think my favorite events are figure skating, ski jumping and speed skating. They are all fun to watch though. I didn't think that I would watch much of them but have surprised myself :)

I am absolutely THRILLED about the Olympics as they are taking place in my city this year!!! We've been planning this for 7 years and it's kind of surreal that it's actually finally happening. LOL. I know the US has had the Olympics quite a few times, but this is only the 3rd time for Canada (and last time was 1988) so it's pretty cool. I'm not actually attending any events though.... tix first went on sale a year and a half ago - when I was pregnant - so it's pretty hard to plan your life that far in advance. When the later phases of tix went on sale, I either couldn't get them at the price points I was willing to pay, or the events I wanted to see were just completely sold out altogether. Ah well. There are so many free things going on around the city though, I'm hoping to get out and see/do some of it before it's all over!

As for my favourite events, I've always been a big figure skating fan, I also really enjoy the hockey, but this year I'm excited most about the speed skating and curling.

Oh and a huge WOO HOO for Canada's first gold medal won on Canadian soil today by Alexandre Bilodeux in Men's Moguls!
