A Craigslist gem for you all...

This was posted on my local CL:

Hello
I was wondering if there is a 'retired' preschool or kindergarden teacher out there who would like to make a little extra money 'tutoring' my daughter - she just turned 3 and can recognize her alphabet via flashcards (minus 4 of the letters), count to 10 in 3 languages (when she wants to :)) and is a pretty bright girl. She is energitic and we have gone through two Chinese language tutors b/c they apparently don't realize 3yr olds need some 'time outs' from a learning session - anyhow, she likes to play games and we play a lot of alphabet games at home but I'm looking for someone to take it a step up, maybe teaching the phonics or sounds of the letters? Something fun, yet educational - I am not expecting miracles but I think she would really benefit from this. If this sounds like you let me know your hourly rate and where you are located, as well as if you prefer to come to me or her to come to you - I would like this to be two days a week for an hour or so. Thanks for your time! Please don't reply if you're going to 'bash' me on trying to push my daughter too hard. She thinks learning is fun & after having 5 other children besides her and doing daycare/foster care for over 6 years I recognize she is 'different' than any of the other children and I want to give her the opportunity to excel. And please don't flag, I tried to post on other boards with no response and figure there are going to be more children oriented people on here than other boards. Thank you!

I wonder if this is close to me, because I've never, ever seen a 3 yr old who can recognize letters or count to 10 before - EVER.

>>The ones that have the hardes time are the ones who believe their child is gifted and find out at five/six etc. that the child has delays.

While I seriously doubt this child is a genius or abnormally smart, I do have to say that I believe ALL children have gifts in their own way. I really like Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. Even most kids with learning disabilities or other issues have at least one area they can excel in. But really, counting to 10, knowing colors, shapes and recognizing some numbers and letters at age THREE? Not gifted, honey. Pretty much normal.
