I'm looking for info on how you all get paid.

Always, always, always get paid in advance. If they want to pay you on their payday, that's fine, but they'll have to pay until their next payday when they can pay you again! My contract said "Payment is due in advance on the Friday before care is to be provided for the following week unless otherwise agreed upon by the provider and the parents." If they didn't bring a check by Monday morning, I had in my handbook that they'd be charged a late fee of $15 per day that payment was late, and if I didn't have it by Wednesday morning their care could be suspended until payment in full was received, including late fees. If they were a week late (and no, I would not provide care during that time), care could be terminated. I rarely had to charge anyone anything other than like one day's worth of late fee. Termination never was an issue. Good luck! :)

Thanks!

I hate to make parents pay me in advance - I've just never felt right about it.

It may seem counterproductive to pay in advance, since you haven't done anything, but you're providing a service, a service that it is all too easy to skip and not pay for because once you've got the service... there's no way to force areturn!

I have for 28 years had parents pay after the child care service was rendered. I never once had a problem. BUT recently I have lost 3 (great and wonderful) families due to parental job loss. I also recently had some dubious interviews that left me wondering what would happen if I took those ones on. I have now changed my contract for new families coming in that payment will be prior to services rendered. Current families will continue paying after the services rendered, but I am switching it to be prior to the week(s) of care for anyone else coming in from now on. I always asked for a deposit of 3 weeks from new families, and one to 2 weeks worth of that was applied to their last week or 2 weeks of care. Now some of
