How do I get dcdad to stop throwing cigarette butts on my lawn? I think its him, I havent' a clue who else would do it. For the last 4 or 5 day dcdays we've noticed one or two cig butts on the edge of the lawn by the driveway. The only others in the yards are me and dh (we don't smoke) and the neighbourhood kids and none of them smoke (here). How do I get him to stop without being a shrew?

BE A SHREW!!!!!! But first make sure it's him who is throwing them in the yard. OR make sure you leave one or two out there. Then when he drives up you can just *happen* to be out there picking them up and mention "Why would ANYBODY throw cigarette butts in my yard?" Then if it's him he will get the message, if it's not no harm done.

Otherwise catch him in the act. Then you can blast him. (or tell his wife on him)

My husband has a friend that does that so I made one of those stands with a terra cotta pot that says the but stops here. and you put sand in it maybe that would work. I think it is extremely rude I don't smoke either and although I have no problem with people that do I think they should respect the fact that I don't...GOOD LUCK

My sister has a sign by a ashtray type thing that says " Put your butt here or take your BUTT HOME!" I have had this problem and I just came right out and told the mom that leagally there is no smoking on the premises. That includes the driveway. If I or my dh couldn't smoke anywhere on the property neither could she. If she was going to throw her cig out? Do it in the street.

Ask him. In life we have to ask for what we want. He may say sorry, he may deny. Either way I bet it stops if it was him.

Do you have more than one family? if you do, how about sending out a memo. You don't have to point fingers at anyone, just make a special note that you are a licenced facility and that there is no smoking or extinguishing cigarettes on your property. Ask them to extinguish there cigarettes and dispose of there butts properly in an ash tray or trash bin prior to picking up their children, and please do not litter the sidewalk or lawn with extingished cigarette butts!

I would just come right out and state it. Don't beat around the bush, or they wont listen.

I would just use my "wonderful" sense of humor and just ask if they are his and if he could throw them somewhere else before he gets to your house.

I had a neighbor once that did this. I don't know if you are ballsy enough, but this worked. I collected them all and put them on his doorstep. He got the picture fast. Maybe collect them and give them to him in a bag and say "you droped these" Or you could just say that one of the kids almost ate one and that he just can't do it anymore.
