Today a woman came to my door to pick up my 4yr old dcg "S". I've never seen her before and no one told me someone else would be coming to pick her up.

I had her stand on the porch while I checked the file for her name- She was pretty miffed.

You're nicer than I am. I wouldn't have let her take the child until I got ahold of her parents and confirmed she was supposed to. My parents all know if they're having someone else pick their kids up they have to tell me AND I will check ID. If she was miffed at you she'd have been downright po'ed at me! lol

Yeah - checked her ID- she was obviously annoyed. I will shoot an email to the parents to remind me- or call me if someone else is coming.

If her name wasn't on the list she would have had to come back after I talked to the parents. I wouldn't have sent S with her. I believed her when she arrived- but couldn't take the chance. I sent an email to the mom reminding her to tell me when someone other than them come to pick her up. I am sure the babysitter told her about how I didn't let her take S right away. You'd hope they'd appreciate my caution.

You are way nicer than me. I require the pickup person to be on the p/u list prior to pickuo 100% of the time. I do not allow verbal okay's over the phone. I am very strict about it,i go over this in the interview extensively & while they are filling out paperwork. If the person *is* on the list, but parent didn't notify, the child & the pickup wait until I get okay from the parent over the phone. No exceptions.

I have refused to release a child due to an unauthorized p/u person twice in the last year. Yes, the parent was ticked off, b/c they told me over the phone it was okay. I am NOT going to get into a he said/she said situation with the release of a child. In writing or it doesnt happen!!! Especially when half the time mom&dad don't communicate with each other, much less with *me*. It is a total cover my butt thing, and I will not compromise on this one.

Mom told me this morning she didn't expect this peson to pick S up. She was expecting S's older brother- who picks her up on a regular basis. This relative was hanging at the house and planned to babysit S that evening. Mom said I did the right thing and that she would always notify me if someone else was coming to pick up.

My state laws require that the name be on the list ahead of time and if anyone other than mom or dad are picking up, I have to be notified in writing ahead of time. I would have really ticked her off as well!!

You did your job and you did it well.

This care taker is just going to have to deal and hopefully when she is faced with the same situation, she too goes through the motion that you did with her.

In a situation like this, don't worry about how put out she was. Give yourself a pat on the back!
