Hi. I'm new to this board and I've been a nanny in the past and worked in a couple different daycare centers. Right now I'm looking for another position and have decided to take on some clients that only need more of a babysitter here and there then a nanny. I have always had a fairly set rate per hour or I would negotiate a fee each visit before arriving at their home. I met a lady the other day that would like to have me babysit her 5, 10, and 16 month old children. The older two are very well behaved and the baby would be the only one that would require a significant amount of my time (not saying that the other 2 won't require anything though). Anyhow, I know she doesn't have much income right now and is getting ready to start a new job. She seems more inclined to set a flat rate which I'm ok with but I think she's offering to small an amount or maybe its that I'm asking to much. She initially wanted me to do 2 day's and one of those day's would include an over night, and I do mean full day's. We are talking early in the morning on a Wednesday til Thursday night at 7 or so. Then have me come back and work all day from 8am til 7 or so again on Saturday. For all of that she wanted to offer me $200 and I really need the money and I love working with children but I also feel like thats not really what I would expect to be paid. Do you ladies think $200 for that much time is an acceptable amount? What would you charge? I don't want to be unfair to her nor do I want to feel taken advantage of. Please help and let me know what you would do. She also told me today that she wouldn't need me on Saturday that the wedding she was supposed to go to got postponed. So now she only needs me Wednesday, Wednesday night, and all day Thursday til around 7 on Thursday. So she said we would work out a new rate. Now I don't know what a reasonable rate for that would be.
