Thinking about getting into daycare

Hi, my name is Kristin. I am currently an elementary school teacher, but I am considering getting into daycare. I use to want to be a daycare provider, but my dad made me feel like this was the dumbest idea, and he would say that it would be "a waist of my intelligence". But to be honest what I would really like to do is be a SAHM, but there is no way I can be. So I feel like not only is DC something I want to do, but it would let me be as close to a SAHM as possible. I have a 2 year old daughter who I feel like I barely get to spent time with. I leave for work at 7AM with her, and I pick her up from DC at 5:00-5:30 and I get home around 6:15 most nights only to make dinner, play with her for 30 minutes and put her to bed. I feel so frustrated with this lifestyle. It also does not help that I am very frustrated with my job, things keep changing in education and not for the better. My only concerns boil down to my insurance is amazing right now and it will suck not to have that, and making ends meet. Anyway thoughts and advice would be welcome.

Thanks Allison-

I actually went to a training on how to open a daycare recently. I found out there is a grant that pays for everything in regards to set up for the day care. There is a resource center I am becoming a part of so I can check out books about opening a daycare and get help for set up.

Also my job is super lonely right now. I am in a classroom by myself 90% of my day and when something goes wrong, unless it is like crazy wrong, I am dealing with it on my own.

My biggest concern is money, but most people I talk to keep saying yeah it is totally profitable.

Thanks Allison. How long did it take you to fill up, or get close? Most of the ppl I have talked to around here said it took them about a month to fill up or come close to filling up if they did some minimal advertising. I think I can handle that. My daughters current provider said if I make it past the first 6 months I should be fine.

I don't really remember how long it took me to fill up.
