Looks like we're still working out some kinks here.  Ah, the price of progress.

Mary checked in via email just before she left for Florida.  It is 87 degrees in Orlando right now so she got her wish for warm weather!

I have a social weekend planned for myself including Bunco tonight and Book Club tomorrow.  Katie rescheduled her trip to the state fair for Sunday.  Lots of running around, but it'll be fun!

What are you doing this weekend?

Congrats!  A friend of mine has one of those video monitors too and it is the neatest thing.  What's next?  Our grandbabies will probably have robo-nannies to watch them sleep, LOL.

I will have to read Discovery of Witches book, sounds like it is right up my alley from the reviews.  As you know, I heart books too!

You know, you think you're a valuable employee, but one never knows, right? I'll keep working hard and doing my level best to keep my employment, but you just never know for what reason they'll let you go. I just don't know what I would have done had it been me. Cried a thousand tears, for sure, because I do like what I do and I really like the people I get to work with.

So neat that the gal you met was there for bunco! And winning something, well heck. That's always nice bonus.

Oh, and I found yet another book, so got it. A Discovery of Witches is also a trilogy, so I got the second book in that series. Funny, because it wasn't displayed, but the former was out in paperback so for giggles I just went to see if she had another one out (because in my heart of hearts I knew it couldn't end with the first one) and there it was... Even though I've still not finished the SK you read in just a few days, and I still have the latest Dean Koontz, and of course The Night Circus. OMG -- I'm such a book 'ho. LOL! Someday I'll get everything read. I can remember reading a SK book in 3 days, or JK Rowling in 16 hours. But then that was BZ (before Zoë). Wink

Starbucks is such a money pit. I remember when Lib and I could get two drinks for about $8, and now it's closer to $10. I'm in the wrong line of work!

Oh, and here's a cool thing. Up until now, Zo hasn't slept much in the pack n play, but I decided it was time to get her out of that bouncy thing. So, started putting her in it to nap today, but then also decided that I need a monitor of sorts since it's in our bedroom. Scored a VIDEO monitor on clearance for $70 -- that's uber-cheap. And it's SO COOL!!! From now on when she sleeps, she's on a flat surface, and we'll be able to hear AND see her. You cannot beat that. I think 12 years ago when Jake was born this setup would have cost hundreds.

Got the kids' costumes and everything else on my list has been accomplished, and then some. Good weekend. Hope yours has been equally good! Smile

Oh man, layoffs are the worst!  I'm sure she never thought it would happen either, yikes.  Super happy it wasn't you (they'd be crazy to do that anyway).

Yes, she was at Bunco!  It's nice to have a new face to go with the familiar ones.  We had a great time, and I won some super cute Halloween/spider plates that the kids will enjoy eating from.

Boo is a great Halloween costume, you know you'll have to share that pic.

I want to read the new Rowling book too.  I saw it at Target, but I'll probably wait and get it from my book swapping club.  I've built up a collection of several hundred books here that I need to read too.  I've already read 69 books this year so it'll get done.

Katie is completely enamored with Starbucks now, but I told her she needs to get a job if she wants it more than occasionally.  She said "But mom, it's only $3.50 a cup."  Maybe when it's her money, she'll use our coffee pot more - sheesh.

Hope your weekend is going well!

Glad Mary is safe and warm in Florida!

Has your friend's +1 become a regular at bunco now? I know you really enjoyed meeting her.

Today we have a bit on tap. First is Starbucks where we're going to get coffee and try to use their wi-fi to get Jake a pokemon for his new game -- he cannot get onto our secure network at home with the DS whatever he has and has to hook up to the ninendo network to get a limited edition character. If that doesn't work, then maybe hubby will unsecure ours for a hot minute. That makes me nervous. I'll probably take my work computer off the network (I'm hard-wired in) while they do that if it comes to it. Then Party City for Halloween costumes (Zoë is dressing up as Boo from Monster's Inc. -- just a onesie, tights, and a hat, but she'll be cute as all get out). Then the bookstore. Jake needs a book in the series he's reading, Libby wants JK Rowlings new book (and I want to read it, too) and I just found out that Justin Cronin has a new book out, the 2nd of a trilogy of his Passage series. Which I didn't know was to be a trilogy. I remember liking The Passage, but danged if I could tell you what it's about off the top of my head. LOL.

Ironing and groceries at some point.

Work has been busy. Mostly a lot of Big Client stuff that the PD and I are doing to make things run more smoothly, but challenging to get to that place. And yesterday was a very crazy day. One of my work friends told me that we were losing 3 employees by the end of the day. And, one was in my department (there are only 4 of us). I would never have thought that we'd downsize our department. I think primarily it's a financial thing, but, I also think there's more to it. The gal we lost was really good at what she did, but I think sometimes she had an attitude of being higher up on the food chain than she really was. Not that all of us don't get frustrated with the things we're asked to do sometimes, of course, but, at the end of the day you do what needs to be done because we're all working towards the same end. It's a shame that she didn't fully get that.

Really makes me glad that I'm just a hard worker by default. It could have easily been me. Certainly a wake-up call for everyone in the company to bring it. I'm going to take a look at some of the things I do and see if there is a way I can streamline things a bit more and be more efficient. Definitely going to need that since my workload is going to increase.

Things are tough all over. <sigh>
